    Re: Drawing the line

I chose the 2nd and 3rd options. I can generally demonstrate how my stances fall within the realm of orthodoxy, but some of them will still raise an eyebrow or two.

    Re: Drawing the line

I know a lot of neo-fundis, so I figure to them I am a dangerous renegade. Yet, I think that anything I would espouse is biblical and therefore within the realm of orthodoxy.

I can think of at least a few who think you a dangerous renegade-and even further than that. However, I think you are well within the bounds of orthodoxy.

    Re: Drawing the line

I chose the third option. I'm pretty sure everything I believe is orthodox. If it isn't, it's only because it can't be translated into the philosophical categories out of which Orthodoxy was derived (and into which it was cemented). If it is the case that anything I believe is not orthodox (again, I don't think this is the case), it is something I've seriously attempted to translate into new philosophical terms and think through and attempted to affirm the same basic ideas that the orthodox idea is attempting to affirm.

Does that make any sense? It's 4:18am and I'm finally getting tired. Not sure how this sounds.

I wonder if the first bar should be "green" and the last "red". The yellow looks right on the line walking.

I almost picked #3, because I was asked if I believed the Bible the other day by a dispensationalist relative, but I'm a #2.

Between a #2 or #3 here. Largely decided by those who are seeing themselves as the defenders/deciders of Christiandom. On here, I would probably be a solid #2, within my local church, more of a #3.

I answered #3, but if I got my paycheck from the church, I would be a #4.

    Re: Drawing the line

I put #2 because that is how I see myself, but after reading some others' responses maybe I should have said #3 - because to some of my former friends [fundies, AHM Nazzies, evangelical], I would shock them if I were to share all thoughts in my head.

    Re: Drawing the line

I voted #2 because it's true. That leaves enough room for people to be shocked by my thoughts, but that still doesn't mean #2 isn't true, only that they probably embrace something more and consider that orthodoxy. But that's not my fault.

If I were to share all the thoughts in my head, I would probably be shocked. Sometimes putting ideas into written form moderates my thoughts, while other times it radicalizes them.

    Re: Drawing the line

Renegade I think is the wrong term for the 4th group. To "Re-neg" means to apostate or abandon faith.
To be "dangerous" I think the term should be heretic not renegade.

So the choices ought to be:
Doctrinally Aligned(aka Saintly but a bit stiff)
Generously Orthodox(aka Acceptably Weird at times)
    Skeptically Antagonistic(aka mildly Irritating)
    Dangerous Heretic(aka annoyingly Divisive)
Condemned Apostate "Renegade"(aka Just pray for'em)

After all we are in the theology forum, we must be precise with our terms.

I think this is an important issue. I chose #2 as well - for the most part I'm entirely conservative. The bigger issue is how few people have an understanding of what traditional Christian orthodoxy looks like.
