B-Mets Destroy FisherCats
My wife and I went to a New Hampshire Fishercats game this evening- actually, we went to a Binghamton Mets' game which the Fishercats were kind enough to host. I like to watch the minor league games, because it's a cheap way to get up close and personal with the organization I support. We were not disappointed this evening- Jenrry Mejia is currently pitching for Binghamton as the Mets try to stretch him from reliever to starter. He threw 7 innings of one-hit shutout ball, and Dylan Owen retired 6 straight batters to finish out the one-hitter. The Mets took the lead on the first two pitches of the game (a double and a single, respectively), and never looked back, winning 5-0 and amassing 14 hits in the process.
Mejia is only 20 years old, and if his development continues at the rate it has over the last 3 seasons, he could be that home-grown #1 starter that the Mets have been needing to anchor their rotation. He could be ready for the Majors as early as next season, and with Santana locked up through 2013, they could offer Pelfrey an extension and actually have a rotation to compete with the Phillies. This season may be a wash, but I'm actually feeling good about our future for once.
