Pastors, how many Sundays a year do you NOT preach?

In another thread, Greg mentioned how he doesn't invite other preachers and how the era of guest preacher is over...

Over the past 52 Sundays at my church:
    • 46 me and my co-pastor (we aim for even, but ended with 24/22)
    • 1 District Superintendent Kevin Donley
    • 1 ONU Preaching Ambassador (student)
    • 1 guy in my church who is an Elder in Wesleyan Church and professor at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School
    • 1 missionary couple
    • 1 VBS Program Sunday
    • 1 Christmas Program Sunday

(I now realize that the unassigned Elder in my congregation didn't get to preach this year...)

Re: Pastors, how many Sundays a year do you NOT preach?

This past year I missed preaching on 4 occasions: 1 - weather, 1 - guest speaker from pregnancy support center, 1 - vacation, 1 - Brent Vernon concert

I did preach on 2 occasions in other churches.

I have a total of three and a half years 'retired' and during those years, I was preaching somewhere on all but 8 or 9 Sundays.

For me I don't preach when I'm sick or on Holidays or away at a conference or doing Continuing Education classes. Usually works out to about 8 times a year.

Re: Pastors, how many Sundays a year do you NOT preach?

Mine has varied quite a bit from one year to the next. Most years, it seems, I preach all but a handful of Sundays (4-6).

I have a guy answering a call to ministry, and once I get him moving on some classes and licensed, I'll be getting him up to preach more often. He's preached twice in the past year or so and will preach again once this summer. Once he's "up and running," my hope is for him to preach once a month... and then within a couple years for him to lead a new campus/church/outreach point in a neighboring town, where he lives. (I'd love to have 2-3 men and women like this... but I don't. Yet.)

I also have a retired pastor in our church (my dad) who is happy to preach whenever I ask him to (so long as he's not preaching somewhere else... which he has been for the past two months).

I just had a long sabbatical break last summer (15 weeks), which had me feeling like I shouldn't be away or out of the pulpit too many more Sundays in the months following. This year (2017), the plan is for me to be gone 4 Sundays. I may get someone else up there to preach a couple other times while I'm present, but nothing is on the calendar yet.

Re: Pastors, how many Sundays a year do you NOT preach?

I usually preach all but six Sundays at our church. Four vacation, one is the VBS program, and one pulpit exchange with another church down the street from us. This coming year we are planning to increase the pulpit exchange to 3x.
    Loving God . . . Loving others.
