What's happening in your area for Earth Day?

Forty years and a day ago Bethany Nazarene College faculty and students held a demonstration for Earth Day at the Oklahoma state capitol building because the Biology Club was starting on a weekend field trip on the first official Earth Day so we jumped the gun (Sooner style) and drove from the campus down to the state house. We had placards and members of the state legislature spoke. Probably about 200+ in all.

What am I doing today? I will mention the fact at the beginning of my Community Education US History survey course this evening.

The kids from my block are walking up and down the street to pick up garbage. I myself am doing nothing particularly special.

The students at my school have been doing a special recycling drive all week (we recycle all the time anyway, but they made it into a competition for this week). Many came in t-shirts and such to school today (including myself in one that says "No Trash Left Behind"... har har). Each student got a pencil in first hour that has a positive earth day message and the pencils themselves change color when heat is applied to them. They were a BIG hit.
