Re: Would you ever vote dishonestly in a poll?

I actually think many people vote dishonestly in polls. Some will vote their convictions which are vastly different than the philosophies they publicly express. Some will vote the way that they think they should to be viewed as "mainstream". I voted yes on this poll for just those reasons. I guess I will say the same thing I think about polygraphs when they ask if you intend to lie -- it depends on what you ask.

I know you are right, but I'm not thinking at that level. Just trying to be funny here on the fun forum.

If a person says "yes" are they telling the truth that they would vote dishonestly? If they vote "no" are they telling the truth?

It's my version of an absolutely worthless poll.

I missed that this was on the Good Clean Fun forum. And why don't we get a bad clean fun forum?

There is no such thing as a worthless poll, only a worthless pollster. (Oops, don't take that personal).

Re: Would you ever vote dishonestly in a poll?

so if someone votes yes, should we assume that they're not telling the truth, thereby making their answer no? And if their real answer isn't the same as what the picked, it goes back to yes... oh man, I need to lay down.

Re: Would you ever vote dishonestly in a poll?

This poll needs more options. Must I choose either yes or no? Why not maybe? Do I really know how I would respond to an uncomfortable and difficult poll? What if I'm not in touch with my own convictions enough to recognize areas of self-deception? What if the poll reveals the identity of those who respond and I feel pressured to identify myself with one particular answer?

Scott, Scott, Scott. You need to get beyond this black-and-white, yes-or-no modern worldview and recognize the gray areas of postmodern living. We need a new polling system that allows for a continuum of possible answers on multiple levels.

(By the way, I think all those people who voted no are lying.)

    than seeking practical answers.

Plus that, I'm quite sure we can't trust those who voted Yes.

If you want an example of worthless polls, you should be a registered voter in New Hampshire. The other day, the pollster asked me if I was likely to vote in the upcoming election. I said, "No." (I lied.) The pollster daid, "Thank you for your time," and hung up. Why didn't I think of that years ago?

I do understand why once I said I wasn't likely to vote, the rest of it didn't make much sense.

what does it say about me that it would never had even occurred to me; a) to do this myself or b) that someone else might do this?

I resent that insinuation Mr. Cundiff! I don't deny it, but I do resent it.

Isn't this a poll in which it's impossible to vote "honestly"?

Just couldn't vote, Scott ... you know how Shea "splained" it ... one answer refers you to the other, which then refers you back to the other, which ..............

Just pick a side...It's not like we are talking about ancient text capitalization or something. (Yes, I do tie all of these together in my mind, the insanity of it keeps me sane)

Re: Would you ever vote dishonestly in a poll?

I don't know whether or not I would. As someone who, because of official responsibilities, would sometimes conduct polls, I'd have to say that I never gave one that I didn't ultimately regret.

Billie, you didn't hear the TIC in my post !? If I were to vote, I'd probably have to say what Charlotte said.

Yes, but I wasn't sure if you were being honest in your TIC!

If I say "I'm undecided" would you accept that as being honest?

I would say "no". But that is only because of my own desires and not because of your own trustyworthylessness... (2 points for working a "lessness" into a post!!).

How could that be honest, David? Sounds like someone fudging ... undecided about letting us know (or not) that he might actually be dishonest at one time or another.

Interesting ... usually oxymorons are composed of two or more words. Here's one all in one [albeit made up/contrived] word.

Re: Would you ever vote dishonestly in a poll?

Perhaps a corollary question might be,
"Would you ever vote for dishonesty?"

Seems like we'll know the answer to that one tomorrow, or at least as long as it takes to reveal which campaign promises were broken!

Re: Would you ever vote dishonestly in a poll?

If it's a poll I really don't care about then chances are good I'll just throw answers in which case there is no telling.
