Couldn't quite get the significance of Niagara since there is a US one and a Canadian one .Don't think its French either . However , that said , its always nice to be included for whatever reason , even if you can't figure it out . Maybe Jim will get it .

Sorry, Marg. I assumed that you and Jim were the only francophones among us, based on your locations (and past posts). As far as Niagara, I think it's a symbol of the 200 years of peaceful relations between our countries, since your kith and kin last burned our executive mansion. Hope you all have a great week-end.

While I live in a bilingual country -can see Quebec across the river from the end of my street ) and studied French for 10 years , I rarely use it except to translate a sign or some part of printed work . When I worked at St Louis Marie de Montfort Hospital for a five ½ weeks before going to British Honduras ( now Belize ) the first time I used French a lot then . In fact to get an English report I had to get there early. Typical room of 4 kids ,2 were bilingual , 1 Anlgo and 1 Franco. Getting used to hearing French helped me pickup more Spanish and understand more even though I had never studied it.
4 added posts and mine got 46 minutes and 50 minutes .

Hi Everyone![]()
Well I am still learning, although I should have been taught french as a child. Mine is the first generation in our family to not learn french at home. My grandparents were the first in our family to learn english, pretty quick transition if you ask me.
Marg is in English Canada, one needs to be in Quebec or Northern New Brunswick to be in "French Canada".

Hey Marg! Want to get tired again?
What a weekend! On Friday morning I took the system down at Portsmouth and set up my back up system there. Then over to Smith Mills to get set up. On Friday evening my wife stayed behind to run the sound at Portsmouth, while I went ahead and got everything set up and ran sound at Smith Mills. On Saturday evening we switched because there was a group of singers coming to Portsmouth from Tremont Temple in Boston. Sunday Morning and Rhonda headed back to Portsmouth while I went to our church to lead the music there. Sunday afternoon I ran the afternoon concert at Smith Mills and then Sunday night I went back to Portsmouth for the evening service while Rhonda held down the fort at Smith Mills. The evening service ended at 8:20 at Portsmouth and I was loaded, exhausted and on the road by 9:10PM, I arrived back at Smith Mills around quarter to ten, just in time for the youth program opening night dress rehearsal at 10. I got to bed at 2AM, and back up at 7 and off to work. I'm on my way back out the door now to get ready for the evenings two services, they run three services a day from now until Sunday night.![]()

Hi again .Glenda . You pop in and out so quickly . Seen any more wildlife lately ??
Marg
Hi Marg (and all),
At some time I would like to hear what took you to Belize.
(and the wildlife reports are eagerly awaited, too.)
Steve , I went to British Honduras , then , in 1968 in the second year of the Student Mission Corps program . Or was it still called YMAC then ? 30 college students were selected that year and 4 of those from our little college in Winnipeg ( Canadian Nazarene College- about 100 students .) Two were a brother / sister pair but the sister just couldn't raise enough money . She later went to Thailand and married someone from there though they live in Brantford , Ontario , now . I was with 4 other students , one from Southern , one from Olivet and 1 from Northwest and I don't recall the other at the moment . We were there for 6 weeks but I extended 3 and a half more as my college started later . Worked in Holland Memorial clinic in Benque Viejo del Carmen as well as a couple weeks in the Crooked Tree clinic . l did a few vacation Bible schools ( one in Spanish ) , a week touring a bit and a week in Roaring Creek . The bulk of my time was in Benque, all the extra time . 10 years later I went back to Belize for 6 weeks , 4 weeks vacation and 2 weeks absent leave and again worked in the clinic . Just loved it . Also helped with a youth camp( embarassing story connected here ) and would play the piano or pump organ often at the local church . Funny about the pump organ . I took to this portable right away as when I was a child , we took the streetcar to church and were there an hour early as leaving on a later one might make us a couple minutes late .( no way with my mom ) Our church had two pump organs and I used to play them a lot . My shifts at the clinic the second go were 10 days in a row but discovered it was identical to the other nurses as I was just filling a slot where a gal was on vacation .
Just 3 added posts this time and mine got 7 hours and 24 minutes and 15 hours 36 minutes .

Good night fellow "best thread on naznet" participants.
Just finished up the annual Christian Hip Hop concert here at camp. Very loud, but now it's nice and quiet and time to sleep.

Hi Jim . From one of the participants of the " best thread on NazNet " . I like that . Wonder what would happen if we did a poll on that . Here I am sure it'd win but over on another forum somehow I think we'd lose . However if it was based on being kind to each other we'd win hands down . We just don't do controversy here ! It is indeed a safe place .

Another great night at camp last night! Last night was "youth night" our local youth group worship team did the music for the service. Wow! What an incredible job by a group of incredibly talented young people, it's an honor to be able to work with them.
The adult leader of the youth group approached me in tears this morning to thank me for my ministry. She tells me that this is their only opportunity to perform with a professional sound system. "Those are my kids, you make them sound so professional, thank you so much." "you don't realize how much your encouragement means to them." she said through tears. I am humbled and honored to be able to serve. Hopefully I can encourage young folks to serve through music, and continue to do so well into their adult years!

Just what area(s ) are you interested in about CNC ? Of course ,my personal experience is prior to the uniting of the college with the Wesleyan church's college to form Ambrose .Also prior to the move to Calgary . CNC started in Red Deer Alberta , moved to Winnipeg to be more central to all Canadians and then moved back west to Calgary . Not sure if I would have attended if it had been out there . Probably would have gone to ENC or Olivet , much closer .
Just 3 posts this time and mine got 12 hours and 13 minutes .
Was listening to the radio tonight . In fact stayed in the car a bit longer to hear what the minister who has a two hour talk show had to say. ( M-F ) He was talking about the United church of Canada. They had control of the city wide vacation Bible schools I used to help a lady from our church with . I was the teen helper at the time . Then they changed their stance on the Bible saying the OT writing were just stories and never happened . We quit teaching for them after that . Anyway there apparently is an avowed atheist who is an ordained minister in that church . And no one has questioned her beliefs . The U C of Canada was formed from the uniting of Congregational , Presbyterian and Methodist churches . We still have Presbyterian churches with a wide range of types and pastors and Free Methodist churches . I shake my head when an atheist can be a minister and they still call it a church .

Good Morning, Marg.
I wondered how the move west, or the change to Ambrose, affected your fondness, memories, allegiance to your alma mater. From your posts, I'd guess you studied in a health care related field?
And only 100 students? Nice in a way, but maybe you learned a little more about your fellow students than you cared to know? (After Mount Vernon, I went to Ohio State with 50,000 of my closest friends.)
Jim,
We had a couple of excellent music teachers in our little church and town - Willard and Helen Basham. Olivet grads. And great friends in later life. So we were given a lot of opportunity to play. I miss them.
And when I was taking lessons, one of their former students was just starting a performance career. I can't tell you how many times the little ladies at church would tell me that if I practiced hard enough, I might be able to "play like Ovid" someday.
Have a great day.

The move to Calgary didn't change things for me . Or even the uniting of the colleges . Before that happened my feelings changed . They sent out a glossy pamphlet to all the churches in Canada as well as individuals from the college thanking all those by name and the amounts they had given . I was listed as under $10 ( given when the choir was in Ottawa ) when in fact I sent in $15 every week through my local church . ( I know of at least 2 other couples in our church that had been similarly treated ) . I also regularly sent money for the staff to purchase treats for their coffee .So being a supportrer of less than $ 10 really hurt . So now that $ 15 goes to WEF every two weeks and only what our church gives to the college goes there .
As to what I took there, I was already a RegN nurse before going there ( great for part- time employment ) and took a BSL ( like a BA in Religion) . At the time the college wasn't accredited ( did become in 3 years or so ) so when I later went to Ottawa U for my B Scn Nsg I didn't get credit for any of my courses . Including Spanish ,Psychology and Philosophy but I was grateful for a good grounding there . My intro to philosophy at Ottawa U was just Hume and Descartes wheras at CNC I 'd had all the major philosphers .
By the way CNC gave me credit for some of my nursing courses and I skipped freshman and went straight to Upper Class .

Someday I would love to learn to play, I started to teach myself thirty years ago but never put enough time into it. I did figure out how to construct all of the minor and major scales and most of the chords, just not fast enough to actually play. I still need to learn how to hear progressions, I can hear them, but can't translate them to my fingers. Oh well, someday?
We have a fellow at camp who completely amazes me. I'm hoping to sing Steve's song "Redeeming Grace" on Sunday afternoon, only problem is that Steve never wrote it down except for the words, so I've only sang it with him or acapella. Anyways, my buddy at camp said, "lets give it a try, if you can keep singing against me when I follow wrong, I should be able to learn it." So we played around with it for an hour or two Wednesday night and we'll give it a go again tonight. I'm amazed that this guy can learn to play it in about the same time it would take someone to learn to sing it!
Steve tells me that he could never afford to bring Ovid and Neilsen to Xenia. He tells me that a few years after he had left, the church had grown and they called them to play a concert. Ovid tells him that they had the piano that Steve bought brought out to the center of the platform, along with an old upright that had been dragged out of somewhere. They flipped a coin to see who would suffer to play the upright.![]()

Jim. It might be a little broader than that. My wife works now and then with a company from Northern Vermont.** She says they always answer the phone in French, and switch to English after she speaks.
By the way, is "Chabot" pronounced like Cabot in the Cabot Trail? Went car camping along it a few years ago. Spent an absolutely glorious day listening to music at a Cape Bretton Fiddle Music convention. The day ended with over a hundred fiddlers on stage, from tykes to oldsters. Even included a dancing priest.
Oh. And they like Tim Hortons up there, too.
(** No need to correct me. I know that Vermont is not, cartographically or legally speaking, part of Canada. But in spirit ...)
Just one added post , thanks Steve ,unless you count the one you deleted . It was a good post ,too.
Mine got 30 hours exactly being last !
Hey this post is a snarf palindrome . Thanks for deleting that second post ,Steve , to let me have the honours .
Marg
Always glad to be of service. After posting it, I realized it violated one of my posting standards, so I deleted it. I have other standards, too, such as no Current Events posts until I have submitted 1000 posts to NazNet. (I have violated it once already ... Which would make me a bad Calvinist, I suppose. Or perhaps it was never a standard in the first place.)
Hey, I've seen you mention some of the exclusive clubs that are recognized here on NN. Is there a 100 post club?
And congrats on the snarf.
Hi Jim , what is the camp whereof you speak?
