Steve, you asked about other clubs. So, besides those "# clubs" you have seen, there is also the currently inactive (being mostly comprised of northern hemisphere inhabitants) IHS CLUB, aka I Hate Snow Club, that will become active again much too soon, I fear.

ETA: forgot to congratulate Marg on her palindrome snarf, #8118.

Sorry , Steve , but the first congratulatory number is at the 1 K mark . Gotta make it somewhat special . At 100 you do become a senior member which has nothing to do with age . At first I thought it did and I was slightly miffed ! lol
However , if you like , I could congratulate you here on your 100th ! After all what are friends for .Currently there would be 28 in the 100 club .

    There is 1 in the 6K .
    Two in the 5 K .
    5 in the 4 K.
    4 in the 3 K .
    7 in the 2 K .
    26 in the 1 K .

Re: Who will be the last person to add to this thread?

"Currently there would be 28 in the 100 club ."

Thanks, Marg, although I wish there were a few more members to join in the "Century Club". 40 would be a nice round number ... and would bring to mind a song from my youth "Are you on the Golden Forty of the Lordy, Lordy, Lordy." (Another odd song I liked was "Drop Kick Me Jesus over the Goal Post of Life".)

And Gina, while I like winters a lot less than I used to, I'm still not sure I'm ready for the IHS Club. My favorite Robert Frost poem is still "Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening". Fortunately, the "Snow Line" in Ohio is about 30 miles or so north of us, so we don't usually get the lake snow. It seems the length and severity of our snow fall varies considerably from year to year. So it gives one hope, whichever side of the (snow) fence one comes down on.

Finally I hope Jim answers the question about his camp meeting experiences this summer. Sounds like a wonderful time.

Your next person to pass is Hans . He is less than 400 ahead . You can do it , Gina !!

And Ryan and Billy are about 100 past that . Time will tell if you can pass them all.

So, won't be trying to surpass anyone, really ... just keep readin' & ramblin' like we have been doing for a long time now.

We served at three camps this year. First one was Douglas Camp in you guessed it Douglas, Massachusetts. They have been holding revival meetings there since 1875, even had Charles Finney himself preach there! This year the evangelist and song leader was Gary Bond. We always have a great time with Gary and this year was no exception. I'm proud that he has inherited the mantle from Chuch Millhuff, he is very deserving of the honor of being our denominations chief evangelist!

Second Camp was Portsmouth Camp in Portsmouth, RI, they have been around for 115 years or so. The evangelist this year was former NTS professor Chick Shaver and the Song evangelists were Steve, Jan and Nate Adams. Steve and Nate were "saved" at Portsmouth over 50 years ago, while their dad Nathan Adams Jr. served as Pastor of First Church in New Bedford, MA. I've been doing sound for Steve for ten years now, it's always a pleasure to catch up with these old friends!

The third camp is our home camp, so to speak. Smith Mills Camp in Dartmouth, MA has been here for roughly 105 years give or take. I'm convinced that a week at Smith Mills is the closest thing to glory that we will ever experience on this side! Our evangelist this year was Flick Grezel, who pastors our church in Rockvill, CT and the Song Evangelists were the Woodbridge Family. Donnie Woodbridge pastors First Church in Brockton, MA. Also close friends, what a pleasure to spend a week serving with them!

Tentatively for next year we should be meeting up with Larry and Tamla Leckrone at Douglas, Gerry Whetstone at Portsmouth and we are eagerly anticipating Jorge Barros and Mark Murphy at Smith Mills!

We were planning on spending a few days at District Camp this year, but the weather was unbearably hot and with our other commitments we thought best to relax at home. We did send little Danny off to Childrens Camp there though and he had a great time with the help of our wonderful John Reilly!

Re: Who will be the last person to add to this "never ending" thread?

    Morning all!

Just discovered a new song this morning! I was looking around to find an accompaniment for "At The Cross" when I came across a companion song also written by Isaac Watts and using the same tune. "I Am No Ashamed" is the title. So this morning we will be singing the first verse of "At The Cross" then moving to the verses of "I Am Not Ashamed", I'm wondering how many will notice the switcheroo?

Don't tell anybody that I waited until Sunday morning to pick the songs! Yet God is good, he was at work last night giving me a couple of songs and the theme, and presto it all came together this morning with an extra hour to spare.

Morning all! Another beautiful day in paradise! As we were finishing up siding our garage, I noticed that my wife had found herself a seat on the lawn and was admiring the view out the back. Nothing yet has man made that could ever rival His creation. And it's all around us! Free for the taking in!

Bad weather can be dangerous, no doubt. That's why folks need to be prepared for it when it comes. I am grateful to live in an area of the country where the weather rarely if ever becomes threatening.

Yesterday we had a great day! We got up early and met up with a few friends at Tim Horton's for breakfast, then we wet shopping for supplies for the ATV's. One needed a battery and the other needed a fuel pump. We were out and about well before noon! We headed out to Stockholm and got gas, sandwiches and soda at Anderson's store, then off to Madawaska Lake for a nice picnic lunch. From there we took a nice leisurely ride up the rail bed to Washburn before heading back toward the house where our neighbor was planning to pick us up at 6 for supper. Got back with time to spare, then off we all went up to Long Lake for supper at the Lakeview Restuarant. When all was said and done we arrived back a little after eleven and then off to bed.

Up at 8:30 and on the road back to Massachusetts! So here I am back down south for a few weeks before I can get back to paradise!

After all of our out and about enjoying the splendor of creation, I've decided that we will be singing "This is My Father's World" as our opening song tomorrow morning. I just can't help it!

Re: Who will be the last person to add to this "never ending" thread?

The full list is as follows:

    Joyful Joyful We Adore Thee
    This is My Father's World

    Blessed Be Your Name
    It is Well

I will be singing In The Garden as a special

As I was thinking over your mention of those caught in the path of the hurricane, I began to think of those in our congregation either too infirm or too poor to get out and enjoy creation. Then I thought to add songs to cover the spectrum of joy and of inner peace. Hopefully there will be something to speak to everyone.

Would have loved to have been in your service , Jim . We actually sang 2 hymns today ( or at least from the hymn book and not just a token one which often as not is missing anyway ) .
I try my best to use truly "blended" music. I've been fortunate that I absolutely love the hymns and I'm able to do them justice. I actually stopped us in the middle of the chorus to "Glory to His Name" last week to nicely scold the older folks. "How will the young folks realize how lame their songs are if we don't show them the life in ours" I said, they got the message and we all got some vigor!

From time to time I'll do a service with all contemporary songs and from time to time we will have all hymns, sometimes slow and sometimes fast. About five times a year we do what I call "high church sunday" where all the congregational singing is pipe organ and I'll usually sing some sort of a "high brow" special from the balcony. It isn't a favorite for the young people, but they will admit that it gives them a bit of culture.

One thing that I used to absolutely loathe back in the day, was the "token" hymn. Hymns have majesty, hymns have energy, hymns will either bring you to your feet or to your knees, if they don't they are done wrong! Not that I'm opinionated or anything like that.

To know and to serve God, of course, is why we're here, a clear truth, that, like the nose on your face, is near at hand and easily discernible but can make you dizzy if you try to focus on it hard. But a little faith will see you through.

Sounds like I'd enjoy the music in your services, Jim . I have no objection to a blending or even occasionally one type but give each type their due . Instead of just a token hymn most weeks and sometimes not that . The odd week we have a second hymn scheduled ( actually just from the hymnbook )if the service seems to be taking longer , its the "hymn" that goes yet there is plenty of time to sing the others through two or three times . My soul yearns for the ageless hymns .

A few years back I was having lunch with Jorge Barros, while we were eating a woman stopped by and she and Jorge had a brief conversation. As they finished Jorge said to her "remember you are special to me," to which I remarked, "you say that to everyone." He turned to me and said, "this should be easy then, because we are in the right place. I'm guessing that there are about 150 people here, perhaps you could point out the one who is not special to you?" I replied "I think you have me there." to which he said "yes I think I do." I've never forgotten that conversation and I try to incorporate that thought into the songs I pick. They aren't for me, they are for those who are "special." My thought is that if there is a way to mix in songs that are special to each one in the congregation from time to time, the others will understand when it's someone else's turn to sing "their" music.

No one needs to be left out. Especially today where there is such a variety of music available. This years "ashes to fire" program included a few hymns set to modern music, "My Savior's Love", "Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing" and "All Hail The Power of Jesus Name" I've noticed that some of the contemporary songs incorporate hymns within them, so I've managed to medley a few of the contemporary songs with two verses of a hymn at the beginning and returning to two verses at the end.

The trick seems to be willingness. Where I'm at now we have no musicians so I'm free to do whatever. My last church we had great musicians who were willing and eager to minister, we actually became a "small group" where we would talk about ministry and share stories about which song blessed which person. Before that I have a bunch of not so good memories of musicians who felt it was their job to broom out the "bad" music and "teach" people to like what they liked. I have to admit that I spent some time not going to church because it got too depressing for me. I don't ever want to contribute to that thought in someone else.
