Avatar (2009)

I could not find a review anywhere on the forum so here it goes.

The movie over all is done well. It is about 2 1/2 hours long and it didn't feel like it was at all. The movie kept my attention the whole way through which sometimes is hard to do with that long of a movie.

It takes place on a moon called Pandora. There is a company who is mining minerals for money. There are natives to the planet/moon that are fight against the corporation in the taking of their land for resources. The movie does pull in Native America ideas of one with the earth very strongly. I think though over all it has a great message and was an eye opener to me. It does have strong political undertones to the movie as well.

I really enjoyed Avatar. The plot was simple and straightforward; the acting wasn't horrible. All an action movie really has to do to succeed is get those two things done well enough not to take away from the effects. I think there's a lot of deeper questions posed by the movie (although perhaps not answered). Good flick.

I don't think Jim Cameron has any answers; he just makes successful movies.

If we lost the reviews, we need them back again. Don't hesitate to post them, just make sure we don't have one up currently before you do.

Probably the movie I've personally enjoyed most in the last 10 years.

It's essentially "Fern Gully" with blue people, and with with a plot line about 1/4" deep - the same 'ol: "good natives" who are at one with their environment against the Insanely violent mindless military destroyers, and the totally corrupt capitalists who are mining for (believe it or not): "unobtanium". One of the military folks in his "Avatar" form becomes the "Savior figure", and vanquishes the nasty human invaders in good storybook form.

The picture ticked off almost every "special interest" and "religious group" out there one way or another, which makes it a REALLY good piece of work that grabbed people at "gut" level in a LOT of different ways.

But in 3-D it's UTTERLY amazing and beautifully seamless. It wouldn't be 1/10 as captivating in 2-D.

Naturally the "Good guys" win.
