Tangled (2010)
As much as I don't get to the movies often...I've seen this twice. Meghan and I got a date night thanks to my brother and his wife several weeks ago and this was the only movie that vaguely intrigued us. We saw it in 3D and loved it. Having seen that it was okay for our three older kids, we took them as a surprise this week. They also loved it (it was our girls' first time in a theater).
I felt like it was a bit of a return to the ways of Disney in my childhood (Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King). While some of this has to do with taking a well-known story and Disney-fying it, I could also tell that the music was of Alan Menken even as I watched it.
The characters were great.
There were a couple of themes that I could run with - "When we discover something of great worth, do we hold it to ourselves?", the redemption of Flynn Rider (although why he returns his bounty to those he does rather than the owners is of question), and of course, the sacrifice and willingness to die for another at the end.
It was the first movie I've seen in 3D, and I have to say: I was way more blown away by the feature than I had been prepared for. I feel like people had always talked down 3D, but it was an incredible experience from my perspective. The scene with the lanterns was mesmerizing.
Good flick. We don't tend to buy movies, but we'll likely own this one when it comes out. Of course, everything in life is a matter of perspective and mine includes four children five and under. :-)
ADDED: I forgot to say - I'm not sure why they changed the title. Tangled may sound "cooler," but they should have stuck with Rapunzel. There was nothing tangling about her hair.
