One of the girls from out church is travelling through Australia right now. She's been working on farm down there in Lake Cargelligo, somewhere in the outback. She's actually driving those huge tractors. She wrote on her weblog how they rise early and get to bed early too, because after a hard day's work out in the fields, that's simply what you do.

Made me think of John Denver's .

I'm probably not the biggest country music fan in the world, but I sure can appreciate a song like this and John Denver of course wasn't half bad.

Although my kids make fun of his vibrato, John Denver is/was one of my favorite singers ever. I could listen to him any day of the week. My favorites are "Thank God I'm a Country Boy", "Back Home Again"
and "Matthew" .

Ugh! I know if I would read that it would completely ruin it for me! So...I've stayed away from knowing too much. There are other things I've read about him that I'd just like to block out, so I can enjoy the music. It's the old saying, "Shut up, and sing!"

I like your taste in music Hans (Yee haa), although I like Australian Country artists like John Williamson, Lee Kernigan, Slim Dusty (now deceased) and Anne Kirkpatrick.

You're right about the size of the tractors many of the farmers use. Some of them are absolutely huge and use satilite navigation (to keep the plough lines perfectly straight), have airconditioned cabs with all the "comforts of home". I knew of one farmer who actually buit his own tractor from scratch before these large tractors become commonplace, using bits and pieces of other machinary e.g. a "General Grant Tank differential".

In what part of Australia is this girl presently working? I'ver never heard of lake Cargellego so I suspect it's not in Queensland. There won't be too much growing down south at the moment as winter takes hold, unless she's working on a sheep or cattle station. In the north of course crop production takes place all year round.

I would agree with them. I would consider him a folk singer.

I remember being at a skating party when I was in elementary school and hearing John Denver's Country Road for the first time. It made me cry.
