Captain America: The First Avenger (2011)

Well just want to say finally!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My favorite character from marvel is making a big screen appearance. Ok yes they made on in the 80's I believe but really bad representation.

Although not sure how the fantastic four work out with the human torch and cap being played by the same guy.

Steven, it's been awhile since I've watched the movies so this might be a silly question. I thought Captain America and the Fantastic Four were different superhero teams or packs or whatever you call groups of superheroes.(flocks maybe?) Anyway, does CA join the FF at some point or is that part of the storyline of the movie?

Since the Avengers and the Fantastic Four are both Marvel teams, there has historically been some crossover between the two (FF was operating out of the Avengers Mansion for a while...). It seems unlikely that will be the case in the movies if they're sharing cast members, but they might go for it.

If they do any more FF movies they are going to start over and re-cast them. Personally, I would like to see marvel studios get the movie rights to their characters all back so their shared universe can have all of it's characters. But, I don't think they will ever get the Spiderman or X Men movie rights back.

I'm going to see this movie regardless, but I'm still a little bit skeptical about it. Admittedly I don't know very much about Captain America because I never read the comics, but I don't see much for action in the trailer except for him running a lot(with the exception of a shield hit and throwing it once).

I'm with you on this one. I'm going to watch it even though it doesn't seem likes its going to be anything similar to the caliber of Thor. Hopefully, the movie will prove me wrong.

Re: Captain America: The First Avenger (2011)

I saw Captain America last night and thought it was fantastic. It was an old fashion fantasy adventure with enough heart not to be too cheesy. I loved the period sci-fi flavor from the perspective of the 40's which embodies a kind of world's fair style throughout the film. I loved the honesty in which they approached the propaganda aspect of Captain "America" as the movie seemed to acknowledge it within its historical context as both helpful and problematic. I thought they handled the character of Steve Rogers (Captain America) extremely well, and despite the radical transformation from 98 pound weakling to Olympic-times-4 level athlete I felt like I was watching the same good and sincere person through out the whole film.

The cast and supporting cast was great. Like I said, Chris Evans did a great job, he was nothing like the character he played in the fantastic four (which is good because Jonny Storm is nothing like Captain America). I especially loved Tommy Lee Jones and Stanley Tucci in their supporting roles. Hayley Atwell did great as Peggy Carter; and as the love interest I felt that her and Steve Rogers really respected one another and identified with each other. The Howard Stark character showed that the apple does not fall far from the tree and reminded me a lot of his son Tony Stark (Iron Man). I also like how they handled Cap's "sidekick" James "Bucky" Barnes, I think a very good improvement over how he is portrayed in the comics.

There were some great "easter eggs" to look for in the film (I think I can share these without really spoiling anything).
    • Of course the "cosmic cube" is what we saw at the end of Thor, and the "power of the gods" the Red Skull is after is of course Marvel's version of the Norse gods we have also seen in Thor.
    • As I already mentioned Howard Stark is in the film and is Tony Stark's father. He does a presentation at the world's fair that comes across very much like a 1940's version of what Tony Stark does at his expo in the Iron Man movies.
    • We see when Cap's blood is drawn that is used to create the abomination monster in the Hulk movie.
    • The first comic book issue of Captain America is in the film, and just like that famous comic cover Captain America does get to give Hitler a right cross.
    • The original human Torch (not the one from the Fantastic Four, but the android character invented in the 40's) is briefly seen at the world's fair.
    • The "Howling Comandos" are in the film which are from the comic Nick Fury and the Howling Commandos. I love seeing "Dum Dum Dugan" and one of the commando characters (Montgomery Falsworth) in the comics becomes "Union Jack", a kind of British patriotic hero.
    • Stan Lee makes his typical Marvel movie appearence.
    • A great reference to Raiders of the Lost Ark is made when the RedSkull upon finding a powerful supernatural artifact scoffs at Hitler looking for "trinkets in the desert."
    • And of course you must stay until after the credits for a sneak peak at the Avengers.

The Hulk part is confusing me. Are you referring to the film with Edward Norton? Will he(Hulk/Edward Norton) also be in the Avengers? I didn't see him in the sneak peek.

Yes I am referring to the Edward Norton Film. Norton's Hulk is in the same continuity as the other films (Iron Man, Thor, Cap) even though Dr. Banner himself has been recast. Mark Ruffalo (who can be seen in the sneak peak) will be taking over the part of Dr. Banner in the Avengers after the producers could not come to a contract agreement with Norton. The Hulk may even look a little different as they try to match his look with Ruffalo, but my understanding is that despite some tweaking it is supposed to be the same Hulk. Robert Downey Jr was in the Norton film as Tony Stark, and in Iron Man 2 The Hulk is being reported on a television in the background in one scene. In Thor, the older scientist working with Jane Foster also mentions that he has a scientist friend who is an expert in gamma radiation.

They are not using the same character to portray the Hulk in the Avenger though.

Cap's blood has been used in comics before as a healing agents much like Wolverine's blood.
