    Mother's Day

Even though I'm a guy, this is a topic concerning women so I figured I'd ask some advice. I'm having an incredibly difficult time thinking of a gift for my mother on Mother's day. She's the kind of person who never tells you what she wants. What would be a good catch-all type gift? Any advice I could get? I generally get her a movie but I'd like to branch out a little bit. She's not a fan of spa's either, probably one of the only women I know who is not.

Perhaps a gift certificate to one of her favorite restaurants, or your usual movie & dinner out added to it?

Does she like flowers? [that's my go to gift for my mom]

My parents are the type that have what they need and want. So, I go to a fair trade store like Ten Thousand Villages and buy them something exotic. That way if they don't like it, I haven't wasted my money.

Does she read? You could get her a christian magazine subscription.

I have this problem with my dad. He never hints or suggests. I can never read his mind. So, I just out right asked him. He said "I have you and your mother. What else do I need?" After that I stopped trying so hard. Is your mom like that? Just happy to have family visit?

How about an mp3 player with her favorite music preloaded. I got that for my mom for her birthday and the next thing I knew I was back in the family will.

    That is my mother exactly.

    Thanks for the suggestions!

I can't find the exact model, but something similar to this went over really well with my wife: http://www4.jcpenney.com/jcp/X6.aspx...00|59178|59180 (we do Mother's day early, because her birthday is the 6th)

You could always give her a 'coupon' book. I've made a couple of those for my wife. Things like a chore that needs done, a ride somewhere, a dinner out, a visit, etc.

If your mother is like this down to not needing anything as long as she has you and other family, then I would recommend a small gift, dinner out and then spending the rest of the day with her. You can play games, go for a walk, ask her about life when she was a kid, etc some way of personal interaction with her.

Don't know how old she is, but at a certain age parents really stop needing things [as they probably have too much as it is] and really start wanting immaterial things like our presense.
