Let's use this thread as a clearinghouse for projection backgrounds for use with church media.

    I'll start...

Here are some as a start. I don't have time right now to post all the ones I had here previously, but we'll start out a few at a time.

One thing I will say about the images I post...I don't remember from where I got most of them. Most of them were downloaded from non-copyrighted sources, ones I made/shot myself, or some might be from Bob Wooley. I've used them for so long, I can no longer remember where I found them. Please feel free (Bob) to claim authorship if I post one of your images without giving you credit!!!

    More backgrounds...

I believe the Easter Offering slide was created by Bob Wooley.

There are a few different sites out there for sharing backgrounds, both stills & video. Would it be more helpful to share these there, rather than adding hundreds of attachments to this thread?

    Just curious...

FWIW, the most recent resources I've found for free video backgrounds are http://churchmediadesign.tv and the Worship Backgrounds group on Vimeo.com.

I don't know Rich, that's why I was asking. Then again, why should NazNet have book and movie reviews? There are other sites out there that have those... I just know that I have used many of Bob Wooley's backgrounds and those aren't out there other than here on NazNet.

The collection I have had been posted here before and many people said they used them, so I'm not sure. If nobody wants them, I'll delete them and ask to have the thread removed.

Please don't think I'm opposed to you sharing lots and lots of backgrounds here. Cindi! If you & others have found this a helpful way to share resources you've created, then go for it!

The book & movie review forums have certain formats people are expected to follow to make it easy to find what they're looking for. Will something similar be adopted here? Or is it more of a free-for-all?

I didn't really pay much attention to these types of threads on the old forums, so I don't know what structure (if any) was used there. I was just curious...

Rich, the way it was done before basically went by season. For instance, if Easter was coming up soon, one would see posts from people who had found or created Easter backdrops for others to use. Or, someone might say that had a specific need, and then others would post backdrops that would fill those needs. Bob specifically created Nazarene backdrops used for things like Alabaster offering, etc.

Better organization would be a plus, but I'm not sure how that would be done. I'm being completely honest when I say that if there is no need to post them, I'll remove them. I hate to see the huge collection I've gotten over the years sit and get "moldy," but on the other hand, I have no problem finding other uses for the time it would take to repost them here! Ha! I'm willing either way.

If anyone has a request for a specific photograph, give me a shout and I'll dig around in my archive for something to match the request. I've got a few thousand images (X 10 or more) that I can post as needed. It would be better if you sent me a private message with the request, I'll try to reply as quickly as possible.

I wish I had the talent that some of you have with these photos. I've opened GIMP a few times, but can't get my brain around it. I stick with a basic photo editor.

I hope you and others will keep posting them, Cindi. I sometimes come here to look for pictures to use for bulletin covers. Another site I use a lot is one you've mentioned before, Heartlight.org. They have a lot of pictures with scripture.

I really appreciate this thread. If Cindi or Bob showed up at our church, on many Sundays they would see some of their backgrounds used for our music or announcements.

Cindi, I need to apologise to you and to Bob Wooley. I need to thank you both for the backgrounds that you have posted here. I used a bunch of them over this past Easter season, please accept my belated thanks.

And I think that I am going to use the orange/pink flower tomorrow for "This is my Desire" Thanks so much!

No need for an apology...kind of scratching my head on that one.

One thing I do want to say...the rose image was taken by Hans Deventer who gave me permission to make PP slides out of it. The image is outstanding and I have gotten many, many compliments over it. (I always give credit! )

You said that you had stopped posting or re-posting some because no body seemed interested. It reminded me that I should have acknowledged my interest and thanks.

    Lightbulb Re: Projection Backgrounds

I'll continue the thread here. It would be nice to be able to categorize these backgrounds in some way. I don't want to start a new thread all the time so we'll try to keep this one going until someone feels a need to change the heading. After reading the posts in another thread, I am not sure if these backgrounds would be useful? The display of Powerpoint greatly depends on the effort of the person who makes up the slides each week. You just cannot throw a presentation together at the last minute. The letters must be shaded (white with black shadows), positioned properly with the background, as someone has mentioned earlier. The background must match the hymn or chorus so one must go through the verses to see what backgrounds suits best. Local photos for backgrounds are a great hit with a local congregation. I like the plain backgrounds as well as those with a colorful picture of God's creation. Truly I think that displaying God's handiwork shows an unbeliever that there must be a God, so therefore that is the reason I use the photos that you see here. Also one needs to know if we are "hitting the mark" with what we present here for you in your church? I feel many times it is a stab in the dark in what to make for you. Do you feel that these below are a good representation of what you would like to see or should we be making more plain looking backgrounds? Your feedback is most important as I am sure Cindi agrees!

I tend not to use flowers very much in powerpoints because they often turn men away....Statistically, if men are attracted to a church, their family will follow

All: I'm looking for a slide that combines a Nativity with a Cross. I want to use it on Christmas Sunday. The Nativity should be the central focus with the Cross much more subtle, perhaps resting in the star above the Nativity. Does anyone have a slide like that...or could make one?

    Re: Projection Backgrounds

Let me preface this by saying that I really, really, really, really miss the presentation backgrounds that used to be on here... So I had a suggestion to hopefully jumpstart this again...

Why don't we use a single thread called powerpoint backgrounds to track our slides and then put them all out on something like picasa, or photobucket, or something of the like and then put a link to it in our thread. They make it super easy to upload all your backgrounds into one gallery or multiple galleries based on the season or event. Then we can go there to peruse all of the backgrounds in an orderly fashion and all our thread has to have in it is a link to our profiles or galleries...

    JH

P.S. Did I mention that I really, really, really, really miss the backgrounds that used to be up here? And have you gotten the hint that I really, really, really, really want them to come back!!! :-)

    Re: Projection Backgrounds

One could look thru pages & pages & yet more pages to find something if there is only one thread. Perhaps a forum would not be bad at all ... unless they go in various threads in the photography forum, w/perhaps a thread for ech season, threads for non-season-specific items like: flowers, family-specific pics, animals, music, nature/outdoors and whatever else it seems gets used a lot for various reasons ... maybe?

I mean, can anyone imagine going thru a thread as long as the never-ending one to find a couple of pictures!?

Seems they would have much more chance of being used, as they're meant to be, if not all in one thread.

There are dozens of websites dedicated to church background whatever your budget. There isn't exactly a shortage of free background and although i don't want to offend anyone, the majority of the background I saw on here before weren't really that good. I just don't see any reason for a thread for posting backgrounds.

    Three good reasons are:
    1. To encourage creativity,
    2. provide a place for folks to share their creativity, AND
    3. to bless those who could use the work of others for their own ministry.

Since the only folks who need visit such a thread are those who ARE interested, I cannot think of a good reason not to have it.
I have used several of what has been posted here in the past, because it was far better than what I could do on my own and fit my needs. I am sure it was below your standards.

Once a novice food critic for a newspaper met the world famous critic for the New York Times. The young man asked advice on how to succeed at this difficult task. He replied, "Unless you want to spend your life alone, with no friends and no social interaction, you must convince all of your family and friends that the standards you use to evaluate a fine restaurant you do not use when you visit a local pub or someone's home. Unless you do this, you will become known as a boorish snob who will never get invited for a home cooked meal."

    How about this idea --

Zach, and who ever else does not want to participate -- if you don't want to participate in this type of posting, then don't.

And those of you who DO wish to participate -- DO.

It's really very simple. Kind of like me and the current events forum.....I don't particularly like that forum, so I don't go there.

I love seeing the backgrounds and quite often will send a link to a particular one from here to the person who does our slides at church (I don't do them anymore).

    Just my 2-cents' worth.
