Displaying a Youtube video in a post

NazNet has a nifty little add on that does all the work for you.

Go to the video on Youtube. Click on "Share" - copy the link that's provided.

Come to NazNet and paste that link into a post.

    Done!

Scott, could we change this? In a couple different threads recently, people have expressed frustration about not being able to see the YouTube videos that are embedded. I don't know if they're on an iOS device or some other Flash-less device, but the end result is that they can't see the video AND they can't see the link. And right now, there's no way to insert a clickable link to a YouTube video here on NazNet. I can prevent them from turning into embedded videos by wrapping them in CODE or HTML brackets, but anything clickable gets turned into an embedded link.

Could we change that? Maybe keep the link AND embed the video? At least on an iOS device, a clickable YouTube link will open the video in the YouTube app.

Rich, I posted the question to the developer and we'll see what he says. Beyond that, I can't help but wonder if it might be worthwhile to investigate why it is that they can't see the video. It may be that they have some setting wrong.

Still, I know that we sometimes run up against technological dead ends. For instance, on my Andriod using Firefox I don't see the videos, but I do see the link to the video. However, when I click on it and it downloads, it opens in the audio player which can't play it. Then, if I use a different browser it works fine. Apparently, flash and Firefox mobile doesn't work right. I know the work-around, but I don't have an actual fix.

Thanks, Scott. I've been trying over on this thread to make a link that would be clickable on my iPhone. I can't make it happen. I discovered that if I "Go Advanced" to edit my post, I can uncheck the box that automatically surrounds the link with URL tags and makes it clickable... but then the link isn't clickable on my iPhone anyway, so it doesn't do me any good. Though I guess it is easier to copy 'n' paste that way than when it's in CODE or HTML tags...

Since I can't duplicate the problem I can't see if it's been solved. I installed the newly released version of the mod today. Can you see any difference?

I can't see any difference in previously-created posts. Let's see if it acts any differently on this one...

Nope, it adds the URL brackets around it & converts it to an embedded Flash video, just like before.

BTW, the "problem" as I see it is that the link is no longer available. It's nice that it automatically embeds the Flash video... for people who have Flash. But for people who block Flash, have uninstalled it, or don't have a workable version of it on their mobile devices -- all iOS devices, most (all?) tablets, most mobile phones -- it would be nice to have a clickable link.

Hey, I *do* see a difference on my iPhone! It looks the same on my Chrome browser with a Flash-blocking plugin installed, but on my iPhone I now see a thumbnail image of the video along with a clickable link! Thanks, Scott!
Thanks G R 'Scott' Cundiff - "thanks" for this post
