    Yahoo mail ...

Got this email whose line-length was about 4 screens wide, so that you had to scroll, scroll some more, scroll some more, etc, back & forth. After a few lines of that, decided I wasn't going to do that through the entire email. Went to settings, could no longer find a place where it said you could make a line just so many characters before it is required to wrap. USED to be there! [supposing they took out a bunch of stuff from their "older" program now that they have a so-called "new" program, to encourage people to switch? Well, this kid tried switching; horrible if you're on dial-up, so went back to "old." NOW, not knowing how long I will have this DSL @ $15 (cannot/will not pay $35!!), I'm not about to switch, either.

So, after settings wouldn't do it, I clicked on "REPLY" and the first paragraph wrapped OK. Then the rest of the paragraphs, other than the first, were just as they'd been. So, here I was in "reply" mode just to read, using "Enter" over & over to manually wrap for reading.

Is there something I'm missing where you can make things wrap within browser settings that I've not found? [Firefox]

    Thanks!

    Re: Yahoo mail ...

Still not sure how to make things wrap (just happened again tonight) ... supposed to scrolling back & forth every line, I guess? [too often telling it to wrap makes it too tiny to read, as it does not wrap the text, but merely makes it fit the margins, without changing any wrap that might be there] ????????

    Re: Yahoo mail ...

Now, besides this, sounds like they're pushing even harder to get folks to use their "new" mail (they've already let some things slide/go in the old one that don't work as well as they used to). But if I end up back on dial-up ...

... AND their "new" one seems more similar to g-mail where it appears you can have one open at a time. NOT cool! Sometimes you might want to go from one to the other for info comparison, so want them in tabs next to each other.

Again, I ask, is there something I'm missing that would allow me to have more than one email open at a time?

    Thank you!

So you have tabs in which you can use more than one? If so, I would think you could have yahoo and gmail open at the same time.

No, I don't mean having gmail & yahoo open at once; what I meant was more than one email while in whichever of these two programs. Suddenly, when you right(left here)-click on an email header in the list, there's no "open in another tab" that appears.

    Gina,

Do you mean like this? The tabs for multiple emails now appear within the yahoo window itself. The tabs are where I indicated with the red arrows. You can see where I switched between the two "tabs" to see the different emails.

I only noticed this one day because I had a ton of tabs open....

    Re: Yahoo mail ...

Thanks, Billie. Haven't gone back to Yahoo's new mail because last time I did, this was not possible. So now it is, huh?

OK, so where's such a feature in gmail to have more than one open at once? They must have something in their program that voids out that "open in new tab" that you see most places for it to not be there when you want to open email in a new tab, instead of in the currently open one where the Inbox list is.

Hope, as suggested, that it's somewhere there in gmail and I'm just not seeing it. Do not always want to have to close one just to see another.

The only somewhat similar function I am aware of within the browser-based gmail application is the ability to "pop out" and email. By popping them out, you can have multiple windows containing single emails open.

So, popping something out does not close those around it, eh? We'll look.

    Thanks.

    "NEW" (allegedly "improved??") Yahoo ....

Don't know if Yahoo is so crazy as to only make every one of their mail program's features only work with I'net Explorer, or what. If not, then they've disabled some useful things rather than "improving" on the doggone thing.

Didn't like their "new" long ago, so switched back to "classic" really quickly. NOW they've made it impossible to use classic, and you have to use their new one.

    (1) You cannot mouse over the address & find out where it's really from; you only see what sender programs as "from" until you open it. If you knew, you might not want to open it [yes, some look like they're supposed to be from places you know, while scammers use such names, too!].

    (2) Have tried flagging emails ... click on them, do the drop-down and tell it to "FLAG" whatever email. What happens? The check-mark stays there, the email remains highlighted, as tho' it's to still have something done to it. You click on it, figuring that might UNhighlight it ... it opens it instead, when you're not trying to open it, but just have it look like a normal email list but with a flag there! ETA: It will do this when you try to mark something unread again [to have it come to your attention later]. You put a checkmark there, pull the drop-down menu & click "mark UNread." Instead of just marking it UNread, the checkmark & highlighting stay there instead of disappearing as it changes back to a bolder font showing UNread. What if you then want to mark a few for deletion? It will delete that one with the checkmark still there!

    (3) As when tried before [which was reeeally slow on dial-up, so didn't bother trying when I got DSL last fall, figuring I'd end up back on dial-up eventually anyway], you cannot tell it to send a few of them one-by-one to separate tabs! You're supposed to close one out to open another one! Doggone! I've always hated that feature [think that's the one thing re Gmail that I didn't like, either, tho' I like the idea of being able to just copy/paste pics in it like you never could inYahoo].

    OK, CORRECTION to #3
~~ I see now that instead of being able to open them in separate FF tabs, there are small tabs within yahoo itself. Phew! But still, what about #1 and A#2?

UGH! Are they trying to send people off to Gmail [basically for the copy/paste of pics, not for the similar open-only-one-at-a-time feature] ... ?? I'm tempted, but don't want to mess up Gmail with all the Yahoo stuff ... maybe have to resort to opening two email programs/day instead of just one [have Gmail now, but it's a rare day I open that].

Anyone else w/these problems [#1 & #2 in particular, since #3 is similar to Gmail, anyway] ??

OK, got that off my chest!

Any fixes for these problems that I don't know about? Thanks!

'Been "new" for over a year now ...

... but yesterday was the first FORCED to use that "NEW" deal day. Having over a year to fix things, very strange things still do not work. [would MS pay Yahoo to only have it work 100% with their browser!?]

Anyway, went there and again tried to flag an email. Nothing! Absolutely nothing. Put a checkmark by it (one already read), went to dropdown, clicked on "FLAG," and not one thing happened after that click.

Before posting this one, decided to do "reload/refresh" in case they added an extra step (why?) before it would let the clicked-on "FLAG" take effect. Nope. Nothing there, either; still sitting there UNflagged.

    I tell ya ... Yahoo's gone to the yahoo's ....................

Would a 2nd TRANSFER attempt work?

Seems I tried earlier to take more of Yahoo over to Gmail, after the initial one. But from the message(s) I was getting, just was not sure at all that it worked the 2nd time and picked up what was added since the first transfer (think it says it will do this for 30 days after you first start it? haven't read that in awhile).

With Yahoo's current glitches after the forced usage of the over-a-year-old "new" program, maybe wouldn't mind moving ALL over to Gmail. But don't want to leave some behind in Yahoo that might not get over to Gmail without having to forward them one by one by one, in a long/slow process.

    Re: Yahoo mail ...

I think you are stuck with #1. I tried it on mine and nothing. With #2, I don't know what is happening on your end. I can flag with mine.

I have three email addresses that I use. Yahoo gives me fits so I use it for notificiations only because I don't need to worry about replying, etc. Plus, some relatives are not good about updating addrsses. So they know that my yahoo one is still available in case they don't have my more used ones.

OK, so if you can flag & I cannot, what browser are you using? If they're favoring MSIE, after all these years of FF being around and working well, well ...............

Also, saw this b/c I came to add one more "complaints": Read something, didn't want to bother with it, so ck'd it off (would do that one at a time, then a "delete," not refresh/delete one-by-one-by-one, as it takes longer). Read another, went back to INBOX, and the formerly ck'd-off one was NO longer checked!

In the old yahoo, you could mark in the inbox, and it would STAY that way until you either did something w/it ("delete," "move," whatever), or manually UNchecked it. This is auto-UNchecking when you're not wanting it to. Ho-hum, yahoo.

They going to drive me over to gmail for everything yet, I swear ... if I can only make sure I get my "good stuff" over to Gmail, too. Have for awhile ~~ "just in case" ~~ been sending bcc's of things I send in yahoo over to Gmail, but don't always remember to do that. Again ... oh well .................

Sad that something that's worked OK for over a decade is now so changed, it gives fits, huh?

    Re: Yahoo mail ...

OK. Have to correct that "FLAG" thing, too. Hey, flags used to be on the LH side so you could actually SEE immediately that something WAS flagged. So, I happened to finally note the scroll bar at the bottom of the page, moved it a bit, and see that what they now call FLAGS are "STARS" at the RH side, where they're NOT quite so visible.

On the LH side, RIGHT where the flags used to be, every doggone UNread one has a PURPLE BOX by it. Clicked the PURPLE BOX at the top, and it appeared they disappeared, so I tho't, "Why on earth did they have most of them flagged, anyway, that I did NOT?"

Then I realized what it had done was to change the ORDER of the emails, so they were just moved somewhere else, those with the PURPLE BOX. Tho't I could "UNflag" them all that were flagged, and start over flagging them myself w/that purple box.

WHY they have that BOX there, when they're already EMBOLDENED which distinguishes them well enough from read UNbolded ones, I don't know! BUT it appeared the FLAGS were now purple boxes, and they'd messed them all up!

So, made the INBOX small enough so that the so-called FLAGS/now stars could be seen at the same time as the rest of it ... way too tiny printing to leave that way and read 4' from the monitor where I sit, leaning back in a comfy chair. Nope, I do not sit straight upright in a straight-backed chair right on top of the desk.

So, the flags are working, after all ... but I don't exactly love their style of flagging that's SO inconspicuous, they did not APPEAR to be flagged, or were wrongly ALL flagged. Duh!

Now, I've got to see if I can restart that "move yahoo over to Gmail" thing and have it work to bring things over there since the last time i did that a few months ago when learning of it (it keeps them @ yahoo & copies to Gmail).
