No, the lectionary is a system which pairs certain Scripture passages with the church calendar, repeating every 3 years. This forum is for people who use the lectionary to discuss our thoughts on a given week's assigned passages.

It is a discipline for me. I am forced to wrestle with texts I would otherwise neglect because they are more difficult and confusing than I would like to admit. If one uses them for the year, it is a wonderful way to go from Advent to Easter, too.

What the heck is a sermon barrel? If I were a more sensitive type I would think it was a derogatory term.

I'm pretty sure it's a hypothetical repository for sermons- ones you can draw from when you got nothin' else to preach...

I have to say I did not know what a sermon barrel was either and Googleing failed me. I was kind of assuming it had something to do with the time period when local parish priest did not actually write their own sermons but instead preached the sermons that were given to them to preach by better educated clergy.

I think there's somewhere in the Bible that it says, "If anyone lack wisdom, let him Google it...."

Found in what's called The Up-to-the-Minute version or, for short, TUTT'M version.
