Well, it was posted with their having the same name now, so you've most likely properly "assumed."

Scott, that was sooooo funny! Thanks.

As I clicked to post it, I was reminded of how ours were a bit messed up, too. But it was the preacher losing his place and, taking so long to find it, we were trying to just recall them and continue as we'd remembered hearing them the night before @ rehearsal!

Boy, that brings back some memories. Every career pastor could write a book. Weddings and funerals. The only people who would believe it are other pastors - who could write the same book!

My stories must still be in the future, I suppose. In 12 years of pastoral ministry, I've done 2-5 weddings every year, and so far nothing goofy has taken place during either a wedding or funeral. We've had some pretty late starts waiting on brides to be ready (two weekends in a row last month!), but that's about it.

Yep that was funny, however, was that a religious ceremony or a civil one?

From viewing the video I'm not sure what type it was. In the rites of my denomination (and I assume for other denominations the same applies) the words "Lawfully Wedded" are not used, much rather the words: "I XX take you YY to be my husband/wife, to have and to hold etc etc......
Likewise we do not say at the end of the service: "By the power invested in me I now pronounce you husband and wife"..... much rather we say: "I now pronounce you huband and wife in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit". The legal part of the ceremony takes place when they sign the various Government documents and church register.

But maybe in the US it's different.

Also I think accent might play a big part here. I have no idea in what part of the US, this ceremony took place but apparently there "lawful" and "waffle" sound similar but not so out here......
when we in Queensland say Law: it sounds like "Lorr" as in "four", whereas waff (waffle) sounds like Woff as in "soft"...... The closest US equivelent to our accent would be that of Boston, but one which doesn't sound quite as formal and with a bit of a drawl especially with regard to the "Arr's".

The funniest "blooper" that I have heard of came from a novice minister who was trying to use "non dominant" language with regard to references to "husband and wife". So when she came to the part when it is normally said to the husband: "You may now kiss the bride", she said: "okay and now you may kiss each other if you wish". Many of the congregation giggled at this "if you wish" part, as if it was really an option....... it was a wedding afterall.

David, been to "tons" of weddings in my lifetime (in several, too), and it's not so strange here to hear those "by the power vested in me, etc" words in the ceremony. Probably/maybe not all of them, but it doesn't sound strange to me, b/c I've heard it many times.

For some reason this brought to my mind a book titled, "Men Are Like Waffles Women are Like Spaghetti".

That was funny! I loved the Princess Bride reference at 1:47.
