Welcome to the Monkey House is Vonnegut's best-known collection of short stories, including nearly two decades of short fiction, most previously published in various magazines.
It really is some of his best work. The stories are wide and varied, from a real review of a dictionary, to love stories, to science fiction, and beyond, this book encapsulates the real genius of Vonnegut: his inventiveness and his charisma.
If you want to know whether you'll enjoy Vonnegut, read Welcome to the Monkey House. None of the stories are long and they'll give you every chance to find some part of his creative mind in which to find camaraderie.
Some of these stories are better than others, but most of them are incredibly well done. If he hadn't also written some amazing novels, this volume would give credible evidence that short fiction was his best format. Even in spite of the novels, it still might be.
