    Cool QR Codes In Church

We have recently introduced a QR code on the back of our Connection Card. All one has to do is scan the code with a smart phone and it will take them to our online giving. We introduced it last week with a funny video and two people used it to give that day during the service.

    What do you think?

Edit. - There are connection cards stuffed in our bulletins, so everyone gets one in addition to there presence in the pew rack.

Didn't even know what a "QR CODE" was until I saw your explanation. Now, I've seen these gizmos all over the place ... magazine pages, newspaper, etc. Just had no idea what they were even called! So, the "QR" stands for ... ??

I'll be interested to hear how well it's used/accepted by folks over time. Thanks for sharing the news of your experiment!

Haven't seen it in church yet, but for the rest, these codes are all over the place. More smartphones than regular phones are sold here.

    Re: QR Codes In Church

QR codes will be appearing on the Thanksgiving Offering posters from the GMC this year. They will take you to either the Facebook Page or the Twitter feed. I have been in conversation with them and they would like to have it take you straight to the donation page, like ours does, but they have no way of tracking those donations back to individual churches for credit.

I am thinking about adding these codes to all the posters and publicity we put out. When the code is scanned it will take the person to the sign up page on our web page. Imagine, someone is standing in front of the "Men's retreat" poster, whips out their smart phone, scans the QR code, goes to the Retreat sign up page, fills in name and contact info and boom they are signed up to go. Cool. (We are in the greater Seattle area so almost all adults have smart phones)

Here is a link to the video we used to introduce the QR at church. The week before I had said "We may not be the coolest church in town but God is doing great things among us." This video was a take off on that.

I see tons of people with smartphones. And I see those codes all over the place. But I've yet to see anyone actually scan one with their phone. I don't think I've ever done it... unless maybe I did it once to try it out back when I was first hearing about them... a year or two ago?

I hope they also include the web address on the posters, for the folks who don't do QR codes... like me.

Yea, these posters actually have old fashion Paper and Pen sign up sheets right below them on a table and they can sign up by filling out the communication card and dropping it in the offering as well.

We are actually trying to tie everything back to our web page. Our electronic communication is all moving toward "click and go" for sign up. This seems to appeal a lot to the younger crowd who are used to doing everything online.

I think that's great. Normal = online. For those who can't/won't sign up that way, here's the number you can call.

I was relieved to see that you provided a textual indication of what the QR code points to. I could just see an outsider scanning the code expecting a promotional video but getting a money app instead...and being totally bummed.

    Re: QR Codes In Church

Our church has been doing this for several months now and it has been very successful. We put it in the inside of our bulletin and reference it every time offering time comes around. Wouldn't be Nazarene if we didn't give people multiple ways to give their offering!!!

By the way, there are a lot of free sites that help you set these up. I personally like http://www.qrstuff.com/.

We have greatly expanded the use of these codes. They appear on posters, flyers and brochures which direct them to pages with more detail and sign ups. We hope to retrain the congregation to use this method of finding out more information.

    Re: QR Codes In Church

    Thanks! :-)

That is an interesting thought about using them on other things... We just started FPU at our church and were having issues with poster space to put info... Totally didn't think about the idea of using a qr code... I'll have to remember that in the future...

How are people responding to their proliferation in your church?

So far they like them. We are trying to make them just routine.
