Lightbulb Young, William - The Shack

Finished this book in a day. Very light reading. I'd recommend it for "baby" Christians.

A father spends a weekend working his way through the pain of a horrific event and learns a great deal about himself and about our unique relationships with God.

One of the messages "Papa" sends is on the back jacket (and I love this): "... Every time you forgive, the universe changes; every time you reach out and touch a heart or a life, the world changes ... and nothing will ever be the same again."
Wherever I am, God is, and all is well.

We had a lengthy thread before on the Shack that we probably don't need to revisit.

I thought the idea was great, but that the writing was terrible. It remains the worst written book I've ever read; that being said, it's a worth a read (although people with children, daughters in particular, should probably skip the first 80 pages or so).
    ...just my $.02.

I had read it a couple of years ago. It was ok. I don't really get into the symbolism kind of thing. Guess the concerned crowd tried to raise a stink because NNU had the author there. The religion department wasn't in charge so he wasn't there for the "wonderful" theological aspects of the book. Maybe the English department should have been the ones protesting! At any rate I find it to be one of those books where it is hard to imagine that anyone would base their view of God on it.

Please provide a link to that Thread as I searched for it and couldn't find it. I picked up The Shack and finished 3/4 of it recently. It is a book that can be put down...now I want to pick it up again. Not the worst written book in the world, but not the greatest either. There are a lot of nuggets within the pages that I want to go back and underscore and chew on a little longer. I agree that the details of the first 80 odd pages were not really needed and a bit disturbing. We get it.
Diane your other insights on The Shack are most welcome! Thanks for the post.

It was lost, along with all the other threads when our servers crashed.

Oh ok. that explains it. I would have loved to have read some of the Naznet takes on the book. For those of you who would like to repost your thoughts on The Shack .. Go for it.

Scott, I loved the book. Obviously, the introduction story is pretty irrelevant, only meant to create the reason for the interaction between the main character and the Trinity. But that interaction is good. The book is no Bible nor it's not faultless, but there's a lot there I really like, perhaps most of all the description of the relationships within the Trinity.

I found it amusing, and certainly not offensive.
