    Poll: World Series

So, where do you put your money? Rangers or Cardinals?

    Re: Poll: World Series

For a wild card team who sneaked in on the last day of the season the Cards have to be a sentimental favorite but then again the Rangers are getting their second try in a row so they will redouble their efforts to take the Championship this year that they missed out on last year.

Cards have experience and a lot of talent, but the Rangers came close last year and seem to be playing very well. I'm rooting for the Rangers, so I'll pick them.

    Re: Poll: World Series

Maybe some others will be interested enough to given an opinion. I read somewhere that this is a "middle of the country" World Series, so the east and west coast one team fans aren't all that interested, leaving the one team fans (Cards/Rangers) and "real" baseball fans who just love the game still paying attention.

Anyway, it's an interesting matchup. On one side we have one of the teams that is "supposed" to be there. The Rangers have been one of the best teams in baseball all year long. On the other side, we have a surging team that has beaten "supposed to" teams to get to the series. The Cardinals have peaked at exactly the right time to get to the World Series - now the question is whether they can keep the momentum going for 5 or 6 more games.

Both teams have demonstrated the ability to post a lot of runs in the last few weeks, both have great managers and good talent.

I'm going with the Cardinals because of the momentum factor. I sure won't be sad if a Texas team wins the series, but I think the Cardinals have some players who are hitting very well right now and that it will make the difference. If my guy, Burkman, wakes up, he'll add another big bat to the lineup.

Still, I love watching Josh Hamilton play. I'm looking forward to the series.

Even though I am staunch supporter of baseball, I will root for the Rangers who play with that horrible DH. I really, really, really, really hate the Cardinals. I seriously do not like that team, I do not like the manager and I especially do not like their hitting coach. I will only like Albert if the Cubs acquire him as a free agent.

Would you stop beating around the bush and let us know what you really feel deep down inside about the Cardinals?

I'm an east coast one team fan, but it's still baseball, so I'm still interested. I picked the Rangers, not sure why. Nolan Ryan, I guess.

Rangers ... and might have a bit to do with Nolan, as well ... saw him do a no-hitter-less-one [blew it at the end] long ago in the Astrodome.

Was sad that it didn't end up with D'backs and Detroit (both got so close) against each other ... then wouldn't worry about which one won ... liked D'backs when out in AZ, and have been to a few Tiger games [tho' long, long ago], as I grew up in Michigan.

I'll put $5 down on the Rangers. After PayPal fees, you'll make $3.24.

As I understand it, the beating business makes a great deal of money each year from the true blue fans of a team like the Astros, which has no chance in the world of having a good season, place "loyalty bets" on their team at the beginning of the season.

I am a lifelong Cardinals fan. In fact, I was named after Stan Musial who was the National League MVP the season before my birth. Having said that, I will be pulling for the Texas Rangers to win the World Series. After displaying such class in drafting paralyzed player Jonathan Taylor of the University of Georgia (see story here), I hope the Rangers take it all.

I need a ruling from one of our ordained elders: If I bet and my team wins, do I have to tithe on the gross amount won or just the net amount won? (I would of course be reporting my winnings to the IRS)

If you are going to pay taxes on the whole amount, it might be good to tithe on the whole amount, too. This of course, doesn't address the rarely acknowledged 40% "sin" offering for gamblers. Let's see: 10% tithe, 50% income tax, 40% sin offering. No wonder we don't gamble - it just doesn't pay.

The Cardinals are a much more spiritual team coming from Saint Louis. The Texas Rangers are too busy patroling the border looking for one too many Presidential Candidates. The Cardinals will be victorious if not I will buy Dennis Scott breakfast.

I think the Ranger's Josh Hamilton gives a clear Christian testimony.

I've heard Lance Berkam openly talk about his conversion experience and that Albert Pujols is an active Christian.

So there's some spirituality going on on both teams...."St" Louis or not!

I"m in a funny place with the world series - enjoying it, but more less cheering for Lance Berkman as an individual but wouldn't mind if the Rangers won their first world series. That game last night wasn't a work of art by either defense, but the clutch hitting by both teams was impressive.

Of course, when clutch hitting is the story of the game, the result has to be a home team win.

Tonight's game ought to be fun to watch!

    Love this from Lance Berkman:

Berkman was 3 for 4 and scored three runs, helping to add another improbable chapter to the wild-card Cardinals' October story. He said he prayed, not for "hits and stuff" but for a "calmness and an ability to compete, because I think that's all you can ask for."

On the eve of the Great Reformation of 1517, The Cardinals may yet lead the church to greater reforms towards heart holiness and a heart relationship with Jesus.
