    Thanks Mod has been updated

I've installed the latest version of our Thanks/Praying/Laughing mod.

One new feature is the ability to turn off or off notifications of new "thanks" - by default you'll see "Notifications" highlighted when you've received new "thanks" -- if you don't want the notifications, click on Settings, and at the bottom of the list on the left you'll see a link for "Thanks" notifications - click on it and turn notifications off.

There are some other changes to the mod - I'll post more as I understand them better.

Another change is that posts with 4+ thanks or laughing or praying are now colored a very pale yellow as a way to highlight posts our members have responded to. Different types of responses don't add together though - 2 thanks and 2 laughs would cause the post to change colors - the 4 has to be all the same.
Thanks Susan Unger - "thanks" for this post

Looks like 6 or more 'thanks' and the post goes bright red. Ouch. A bit hard to read...

Not only that but the yellow and red looks like posts are being moderated. Especially the red ones. I guess I watch too much soccer.

It also appears that in this case prayer does not make a difference.

I went looking for a post with a ton of participation in order to see if there is yet another color level beyond red. Andy's post about his heart condition has "plus 18 others" praying for him, without a change in the post color.

To know and to serve God, of course, is why we're here, a clear truth, that, like the nose on your face, is near at hand and easily discernible but can make you dizzy if you try to focus on it hard. But a little faith will see you through.

    Update! I was wrong!

It appears that the post color returns to normal once the thanks etc. reach 10 or above.

I guess that would explain why none of my posts are colored?

And I really need to find a better use of my time this morning.

Sorry about the red - I was working on different color levels and temporarily changed it so it would be easier to spot then forgot to change it back. For now, just the yellow at 4 and up will do.

The "praying" and "laughing" is also supposed to change colors after 4 clicks - doesn't seem to work here - can anyone confirm that?

Don't know about the laughing, so I gave you one, hopefully you have three other friends.

I did a little addition and subtraction over in a couple of the prayer threads. The praying function appears to work correctly. Although once you hit 10 the color returns to blank.

I can't get the praying or laughing clicks to do anything. There are posts with both thanks/praying so it's a bit of a challenge to keep them straightened out, but I don't think anything but "thanks" causes the highlight color.

And I've just duplicated the color disappearing at click 10.

I've reported both of these issues to the developer and he says he's looking into them.

I may have found the perfect test post for you. Paul Debaufer's "Depression" thread post #27

There are currently 3 praying, if you ad your name it should go to yellow.

There were 11 thanks causing the post to go back to blank. I removed my thanks making it 10 and you can remove yours to test it.

Nope, maybe not. The 10 thanks may trump the 4 praying and keep the color as blank, since it's a different way of getting to blank.

    I'll look some more.

    I found it!

    Jim Franklin's thread titled "Esther"

There are 3 praying on post #2 I added my name and it went to yellow. I've since removed it so that you can try it.

And still time to make it to the 6PM service tonight. Although I should finish picking the songs first.

It seems that I can see the "thanks" and "laughs" from other people on a post only if I add one of my own. Is that so I won't be unduly influenced by the responses of previous readers?

I can see them if I switch to linear mode. In the hybrid or threaded views, they are visible only if I add a laugh or thanks and then only until I do a refresh.

Now that you mention it I think this came up before and the designer said he wasn't supporting any other views aside from linear which is the most common among users. I don't think a fix is in the works. At least you figured out what is going on - that helps.

Ever since you " changed " things I can't get the thanks , laughing to work . I click on it and it has a yellow triangle with an exclamation point at the bottom and says its waiting for ( whatever post it us ) and that's all that ever happens . Never get mine added in .

Just tried to thank David on that Royal Commonwealth thread and after 5 minutes + ( 5 actually timed ) nothing had happened . Still waiting !

Sorry for not replying sooner Marg. At first I was waiting to see if anyone else would report the same conditions, then I forgot about it. Since you are the only reporting it I'm guessing it has to do with some setting on your computer. Has it happened again or was it just a temporary problem?

The colored background is also only for linear people. I was puzzled as to what all that was about until I switched to the linear mode to see some thanks. And there it was -- the yellow background!

It appears that those of us who persist in using the hybrid mode will have a thankless, mirthless, colorless NazNet experience.

Ah well. Such is life -- always a bit more challenging when cruising around outside the mainstream.

For me, the icons for the thanks and laughing features are now both a smiley face. Not that big of a deal but takes longer to process in my mind and read the thanks and laughing responses. Should it be this way?

I don't know why the software developer thinks a grinning smiley is a good representation of "thanks." Every time I get an update to the mod it switches to that laughing smiley and I have to change it back.

Thanks. Is that something I need to personally change, then? Or are you saying that you change a setting that affects everyone?

If you are still seeing it it's because the "smiley thanks" is in your browser's cache. You can empty the cache or just wait a day or two for the computer to figure out that the graphic has been changed on the server.

While we're talking about some odd things here on this forum, I just ran across a yellow-background post. Don't recall seeing such an animal before. I did a search for it, but didn't come up with anything.

(tried real yellow instead of this orangy color, but did not show up on white)
