yes, there are cords for file transfers via USB. They tend to be on the expensive side, though- last I looked, the cheapest was about $15. For that price, you could get an 8 GB thumb drive, which would be much more versatile.

    Re: Transferring files

I've already got the "male to male" USB cord, purchased last week for this specific project, but really was not certain I could do.

Am thankful you said yep! 8-)

But after connecting the two computers how do I navigate to copy/paste? I want to copy files from a, and paste into b.

    a) Laptop

    b) Desktop

    Thanks again and again

I believe you purchased the wrong cable. The male to male usb cable isn't for a peer to peer computer connection but rather for connecting a device to a computer such as a hub.. A usb transfer cable has the hardware in the center that enables two computers to communicate with each other. Windows 7 has the easy transfer software but it’s much easier to purchase a usb thumb drive and copy the files to the thumb drive for the transfer. If the files aren’t too large you can email them to a web based email account such as Gmail and sign on with the other computer and download the email. Another option is sky drive which gives 25 gigs of cloud storage for free. Another popular cloud based solution is a program/service called dropbox.

I've never used this particular method, but I'm guessing that if it works then each computer should be able to "see" the other computers drives in file manager. If so then it should be just drag and drop. You might want to try it with a single file fist to make sure that it gets copied instead of moved.

To know and to serve God, of course, is why we're here, a clear truth, that, like the nose on your face, is near at hand and easily discernible but can make you dizzy if you try to focus on it hard. But a little faith will see you through.

It appears that Randy has answered the question lurking in the back of my head.

Unless you have bought the correct file transfer cable?

I found an article that might help here:

if you bought the right transfer cable, it will either be plug n play, or it will come with a CD to install the necessary software.
