Some of the commercials I saw during tonight's game were pretty bad - rather pornographic with a shot of a car at the end. bah!

I'm really surprised about all the backlash over the JCP commercials. They were meant to portray the frustration people feel when they're inundated with advertisements for sales, discounts, special offers, etc. I know I get about 3 trees' worth of it every year, and it's pretty annoying. Sure, they were overdramatic, but no more over-the-top than half of the other commercials out there. The followup ads suggest that Penney's will no longer be participating in the "limited time only" approach to good deals, but will instead have consistent, fair prices (their press release seems to indicate otherwise...). We'll see how that works for them as a business model, and whether their concept of "fair" is agreed upon by those purchasing the clothes, but the idea is actually rather refreshing.
Shea, yes a lot of ads are really annoying/loud, but methinks the main problem with JCP was the shrill pitch of that screaming ... not just loudness.
As for a new approach, their ad today was different. For one thing, there are to be sale prices for a month (not just week) at a time, and then deeper price cuts on some items, it sounded like, on the first and third Fridays of each month -- sort of letting folks know way ahead of time re what/when to look for such things, instead of hit and miss sort of sales.

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us wthout end, for they do so with the approval of their own conscience."

I would have to say the peta commercial a couple of years back with the vegetables and the underwear clad women.
"Means we use must be as pure as the ends we seek."
They have done rather well at redeeming themselves ... much mellower ads now. They have even had some decent old music with a couple, and they've got themselves one genuinely funny lady as spokesperson, too ... In one add where togas are on sale, she asks if there are any with zippers ... "Zeepers!?" "Yes, zeepers," etc ... Anyway, Ellen is just being typically funny Ellen.
'Don't mind the much quieter ads ... their screaming "Nooooo!" ads were definitely a flop, but used as a learning experience apparently.

Whether worst, or most annoying--currently it is the one where the 2 cats are playing and saying to each other as the store/cat shelter/whatever the place is begins closing up for the night amd the cats say to each other, "I hope you find a home..."
Not only is the commercial annoying, the animation is lousy and the volume of that particular commercial is substantially louder than the programming or most of the other commercials. And it comes on quite often during some of the shows I tend to watch. I've taken to hitting the "mute" button whenever that commercial starts.
Following close behind that one are the ones where the song lyrics are, "I'm home, where I belong" about "making home affordable again, the one showing graffiti saying things such as "Don't Give Up On Me", and all of these new Smokey the Bear commercials. All of these aforementioned commercials rank near the top of my "most annoying" list because they are aired so often, and because their volume is higher than the television programs/other commercials.
Whatever a Droid Razer is those two weepy women make it seem like you have to be a blubbering idiot to want whatever a Droid Razer is.

Meant to give you a headache, so they could then cure it, if you had none before their commercial!
On radio, too!? Ugh is right.

Other than their rebates having to be spent in their store (ugh!!), Menard's screaming commercials (similar to the very bad furniture ones) tempt me to never go there, but they have a thing or two we need now & then more reasonable than the grocery+ store, sooo ....

Oh come on now, everyone knows the Menard's ads are that way because Norwegians are perpetually od'd on coffee! LOL!
I hate scantily clad women shaking their behinds on any commercial, most weight loss commercials, and all e.d. ads.
I usually turn off or mute the PSA for neglected and abused animals with Sarah McLachlan singing. Just too heart-wrenching.
My husband has complained about the ads on ESPN.com. They seem to think every sports fan in into porn.
