History sometimes hangs on a thread

Greg Garber of espn.com has an article called: "What if fortunes had been reversed?" http://espn.go.com/nfl/playoffs/2011...akland-raiders in which he ponders how NFL history might have been different if the right call had been made of the infamous fumble by Brady that became the tuck rule play.

My purpose in posting this link is not to revisit the actual ruling or the ridiculousness of the tuck rule, but to wonder how much of our own personal history might have been changed if there had only been one small change in our past, even or especially something that we had no control over.

The biggest thing for me is the amazing amount of things that had to fall in place in order to meet my wife. My kids lives would be completely different. My ministry would have been quite different as well. I would possibly be modified myself.

The better I know the Father, the more I look back at my (and others') life, the more I am convinced that these pivotal "small things" occur often (daily??). And I'm amazied at how my life has changed - from pivotal events decades ago.
I'm convinced that possibiltieies for God "meddling" in our lives are nearly infinite.
    And I'm thankful.

If I dwell too much on what might have been, I become angry. So, I have to focus on God healing the past and having a better future.

Well, besides getting the thought from a sports site, this question can be applied for sports what-ifs, such as: If I was born in a different location, would I have possibly been a Yankees or Cowboys fan? What a horrible possibility.

    Neither did I

I relocated it, since the tenor of the discussion goes beyond sports, and a lot of people who might like to participate in the conversation don't usually drop in to Sports.

My doctoral adviser at the University of Oklahoma decided to take a job with the Houston School District and had my program all lined out for me to complete the program with 2 more courses and the disertation. His replacement did not agree with the program and said I would have to start all over under him.

Re: History sometimes hangs on a thread

We were discussing this at Bible study last week. We were looking at Rehoboam and his decision to follow the advice of his young friends, rather than that of his father Solomon's older advisors. We discussed what advice we have received that we have not followed, and how has it made a difference in our lives.

When I was a senior in high school one of my teachers and my guidance counselor advised me to go to Princeton - where I had been accepted - and forget about going to the small, Christian college outside of Boston where I had also been accepted.

I seldom wonder how my life would have gone if I had not attended ENC.

    No regrets.
