Fitch, David E - The Great Giveaway
I bought this book upon recommendation of Scott Daniels. I am thus far only two chapters in. The tagline of the book, its mission, more or less, is: "Toward a post-modern evangelical ecclesiology."
Fitch doesn't approach the book from a "this is what is postmodern and here's how we interact," he really is a conservationist. He's studying what we do as the Church, practically, addressing the intentions and means, and translating it for people who think differently (labeled post-modern).
I find great resonance with the book thus far and am excited to continue reading. It's pretty amazing timing that I found such a wonderful example of the theology of post-modern evangelicalism in Peter Rollins' Insurrection and now, a month or so later, embark on a study of the practice of such.
I hear over and over again that the Church of the Nazarene lacks an ecclesiology. For a while I thought we may not be able to claim ourselves as evangelicals, but Fitch helps to define some terms in a way that is helpful for us.
He's a bit more conservative and probably less Wesleyan than we'd like to be, but it's a great book for any pastor or leader to wrestle with.

Re: Fitch, David E - The Great Giveaway
Finished it this week. Great book. Important thoughts and questions for any pastor or congregational leader to think about and wrestle with.
