How does one turn off Yahoo messenger?

I have never used Yahoo messenger.

I do not want to use Yahoo messenger.

I have tried to turn off Yahoo messenger.

It keeps popping back up with pretend messages from, I presume, fake people.

Does anyone know how to permanently get rid of this nuisance?

Uninstall the program from windows or disable the service from starting when you boot into windows.

This article explains how to uninstall Yahoo! Messenger from Windows 7 or Windows Vista

But even when you do not have any messenger open, these "requests" from strange names keep popping up. Yahoo doesn't seem to think popping up is sufficient, for they have them BLINKING until you waste time doing something about them! That is a distraction ... a very annoying one, because they will frequently pop up and start BLINKING AGAIN within minutes!

Have to say it is not a nice thing to do to your customers who have used your mail system faithfully for a decade+, and then to suddenly have to handle this blinking nuisance over & over, ad nauseum ... especially when you write to them asking them to please not have them BLINKING, and they do not even respond.

ETA: also a note pops up after you handle them saying you will no longer get messsges from these folks ... not so ... very repetitious (same names over and over ad infinitum) ... endlessly ........

I tried all of these things. Messenger is not IN my computer. If it were as simple as uninstalling a program, I would have done it long ago. It is popping up within yahoo mail. It is so frustrating. I guess I will have to get rid of my Yahoo account after all of these years.

Have complained to them that if they are going to have those "messages" popping up, the very least they could do is turn the doggone distracting blinking off. And ... they could also see to it that their "block" buttons actually work. It is a rather sick joke that you can block these spam "messages," and yet they do not block them, and the same repeat spam names keep popping up, with a new spam name or two occasionally being added to the very distracting blinking.

Randy, not Windows related. Have nothing but a little tablet now with whatever OS it has on it (a BB thing), and this is all in the online Yahoo. Have tried shutting it down too, to no avail. What is really sad is their ignoring their customers' (knew it wasn't just me, it's so distracting!) desire for it to stop ... stop the blinking, let someone actually block someone their ("dummy") buttons would have you think are really blocking them, and never answering such inquiries as to why they think these "messages" must keep blinking until you open them, etc.

Yahoo has gone to pot (or maybe their programmers have?), it doth appear. But I have so much saved in there ........
