Unless you're part of a special deal (if there are any), you have to buy the book to take the test. Each book comes with a code for the online test that can be used only once.
Being also a personality profile geek (although I don't know what type of animal or dog I am), I bought the book after it was
previously discussed on NazNet, took the test, then read the descriptions to figure out for myself what the answers should have been.
I don't know why, particularly since there's no access to the methods of analysis or even the test questions after the one time through, but from my perspective that test returned the biggest misdiagnosis of my strengths of any I've taken. Plus the authors seem to be carrying a lot of baggage from having had people focus in on their weaknesses and try to fix them rather than finding their strengths. As someone with little grief in that area, I couldn't really identify. I don't recall anyone taking enough personal interest in me to try to "fix" my weaknesses. Rather, people generally recruit me for the strengths they can easily identify, overlook the ones that are less obvious to them, and move past me to the next person in line in areas where my weaknesses make me of no use to them.
I have sometimes mourned my personal lack of mentors but maybe not having someone focus in on the weak areas of one's personality and try to fix them can actually be a good thing.
