Vonnegut, Kurt - Bagombo Snuff Box
Vonnegut's writing career began with short stories in the 1950's. He sold many of them to various magazines. Some of those stories, especially the ones with science-fiction inclinations were collected in "Welcome to the Monkey House" in the 1960's. I believe this to be Vonnegut's best work.
Bagombo Snuff Box is a later collection of those same early stories, this time the more traditional variety. They speak of love and relationships, coming of age, and just the ordinary beauty of everyday life. It is a solid collection, although even Vonnegut admits some of the stories are sub-standard.
There's nothing special about these stories, other than the unique glimpse they give into the development of a genius and the window they provide into 1950's american culture.
