    iPad Recommended Apps

Just got my iPad 2. The church purchased it as a better way to go then replacing my laptop that is really getting banged up and showing its age. My laptop will now remain on my desk in my office, and the iPad will travel with me.

    What apps do you recommend?

Is the iPad going to be for both work and play?

Dropbox is a must. My wife uses one of the office suites... can't remember which. Docs 2 go? Not sure.

I don't have an iPad (yet). My wife has one for work.

Beyond that, it really just depends on what you're going to do with it. Lots of good Bible apps...

    Re: iPad Recommended Apps

Congrats! (I assume you knew that rumors are now very strong that Apple will be announcing the 3.0 the first week of March. )

Other than Safari and Mail, my most-used apps are:
    Kindle
    G-Whizz (for Google Calendar)
Google Voice (for my voice mail and texting)
    Twitter
Keynote Remote (for Sunday morning sermons)
Notes (I write my sermons in it and preach from it)
    Bible
    Lectionary
    Pandora
    Bank of America
    Nightstand
    Mint.com

I don't really use the Facebook app. I just use Facebook through Safari.

I am moving closer to purchasing Logos. I've already used the app quite a bit.

I assume you're not big on games, so I won't go into those. But my kids also use the Netflix app quite a bit.

Media apps that I often use:
FOX News, CNN, & RCP (Real Clear Politics)

I actually did pay $10 for an app (Word Lens).

I'd have to say that if I'm breaking it down by percentage, the vast majority of my time is on the Notes, Safari, Mail, and Twitter apps.

If you're not already using Evernote, you might want to give it a try.

There are lots of other apps I use on my iPhone, but I'm not sure how many of them you'd be using on your iPad. (And Jeremy already listed half of them.)

    What Jeremy said!

And I believe that Docs2go will allow you to prepare sermons using the program that you are familiar with, then transfer it to the ipad for preaching.

There are plenty of specialized apps that may come in handy depending on the technology you may already have in place.

I use both the stage display and remote app for pro presenter. And I use the yamaha stagemix app to remotely control an LS9 console.

Your really going to like this thing!

To know and to serve God, of course, is why we're here, a clear truth, that, like the nose on your face, is near at hand and easily discernible but can make you dizzy if you try to focus on it hard. But a little faith will see you through.

No, of course not. I'm all about work all the time.

However, just for the sake of conversation, what are the good ones?

Does anyone use the Glo Bible? I don't have an iPad or iPhone so I don't use it personally, but I have a friend who does. I've been pretty impressed with what I've seen on his iPad.

I bought it for my MacBook Pro and, honest confession time, it is not exactly intuitive to use and I have not figured out how to get anything unique out of it. To me, it was a waste of money. Of course, that is completely my fault for not putting the time into it.

I don't know what kind of games you like... but whatever you're into, there's probably something for you in the App Store.

The games I enjoy on my iPhone include:

    Hanging With Friends
    Scramble With Friends
    Words With Friends
    Catan
    Tiny Wings
    Canabalt
    The Incident
    Jetpack Joyride
    Cut the Rope
    Angry Birds
    Plants vs Zombies
    Flight Control
    Temple Run
    Infinity Blade

    And many, many more.

    I have two game folders.

    Social Games:
    Scramble with Friends
    Hanging with Friends
    Dice with Buddies

    Games:
    Machinarium
    Harbor Master
    Jetpack
    Drop7
    Bloons Tower Defense 4

I have quite a few other games mainly because my kids play on it sometimes, but these are the ones that I have played regularly.

I have the Catan app, but I wish it were better.

I just had to see what app you spent $10 on. Word Lens, how cool is that! How well does it work?

In this video the iPhone camera is pointed at the signs and you see the translation on the iPhone screen.

    That is quite remarkable.

    Re: iPad Recommended Apps

Task management: Wunderlist (free, and syncs with same app on phone and desktop. This is moving me away from Evernote)
Note-taking: Penultimate (handwriting app. Becoming critical to my business use. Excellent!)
    Book Lover: reading list
Zite: (Currently my main way of absorbing news from my own newsfeeds. this is replacing Pulse, another excellent RSS app)
Pages: (Word Processor. Just bought a bluetooth keyboard, and between it and Pages, I have almost no use for my laptop anymore)
    Bills
    Twitter
    Netflix
    Flipboard
    Kindle
    Merck Manual
YouVersion of the Bible (download translations for offline reading and in churches where there is no wireless)

Concerning the Glo Bible, I have it, but You Version is so good I just never have used Glo.

    Re: iPad Recommended Apps

Lots of good apps already mentioned. I work in graphic design and photography. The iPad has become a great tool for me (and I was initially skeptical). Here's what I use:
    • Snapseed: outstanding editing tool with great filters. Highly recommended.
    • Photosync: the best way to get photos from your computer to your iPad and vice versa. Syncs over a shared wifi connection.
    • Flickr Sutdio: the best Flickr app for iPad. Good but not great.
    • Airsketch: I would think that the preachers reading this would love this app. It turns your iPad into a virtual and interactive whiteboard by connecting via wifi to a computer. Essentially, the image you are creating/editing on the iPad can be projected as it is being created. For me, it's great for presentations. Powerpoint/keynote slides are static. But creating them in front of an audience adds to the presentation.
