A few questions re these got wiped out! (hate that, b/c harder typing on on-screen kybd).
Bottom line, is enabling them safe ... or even necessary for some website functions to work?
Have googled and most found was techy info.
Thanks.

I assume you are using Google Chrome as your browser. If so, web sockets are turned on as the default setting. I doubt that you would notice the difference if you turned that setting off, but why bother? As I understand it, web sockets, is a fairly new technology that may improve the performance of web browsers that use the technology when connected to web sites that also use the technology. Personally, it has never been an issue that I have needed to know about.
Would their not being enabled have anything to do with not being able to add to/edit yahoo email contacts, I wonder?

Oh, ok. Just sounded a bit like they facilitated two-way info transfer, & did not want to find that it enabled some places to get more than "cookie" info off here.
Not sure which browser, as it came on here. Just googled and appears that it might be related to Chrome at least. Still did not replace PC, after missing a very good clearance a cpl wks sgo, so just have this tablet yet ... which BTW, helped me get the vehicle I now have ... a BB Playbook that was $200 instead of $500. Got it after nearly a month w/nothing. Nice but for the onscreen keyboard.
Anyway, thanks for letting me know they're nothing to be worried about re info-collecting.
