    Your next Pastor

    With a global vision.

Interesting this guy says what a lot of American Christians think, but just don't say.

And to think that was the invitation to the altar for pastoral prayer. I'd love to hear what he said in his sermon!

Sounds more like the rant of some drunk down at a corner bar than the preaching of the Gospel. But then, what would you expect from someone whose grammar makes it sound like he holds intellectual pursuit in low regard. HEY!!!

I thought that by definition, pastoring Olathe College Church was the same as being GS material.

I confess to being a bit surprised when near the end he stated the two most important criteria for determining his support: 1) supporting Israel; and, 2) leaving the churches alone...

    HEY! What about gay marriage?

I also loved the part about all the Baptist missionaries heading into Japan with their KJVs. Fortunately, all the WW II era Japanese spoke Ye Olde English...

I am not sure that is even very admirable, seems to be based in ignorance. I have spent a good deal of time outside of the USA, and there is nothing I like better then coming home. I would not say however 1. Everybody should be like the USA or 2. We have always used our power for good.

Hey lets be kind. AS far as we can tell this might not have even been delivered to a live audience. Perhaps he was practicing ? Didn't you preacher guys ever practice preach and have it taped? or he could be parodying himself getting ready for some good old fashioned jocular roasting.

All joking aside. While I can admit that this fellow is fun to watch, I don't understand the level of condescension that seems to be flowing his way. The guy does have a graduate degree in theology, HEY!!!, maybe not in one of our schools and HEY!!!, maybe we might not agree with the flavor of his school but HEY!!!, they probably don't like ours either. To each his own so to speak, and perhaps all things might even be equal.

It does appear that he pastor's a decent size church with pretty nice facilities. Even sounds like his people like him just fine. I listened to one of his sermons on faith, and it wasn't bad at all. I don't believe that folks sleep during service there.

What I just watched was not church... and had no place in a church building.

I'm not talking about presentation... or style... dress... or even sentence construction.

To that I agree to a certain extent. As much as I might agree with a lot of what he said, I would agree that he was over the top with the politics. I would not attend a church where politics become central, neither that which I agree with, nor the government social justice crowd which I abhor. Fair is fair in that regard.

Are we to judge him on a two minute sound clip? I checked out their church web site, it seems that they are about much more than politics. Two minutes?

This guy is taking a different tack, it's highly political and he names names. I would suggest that this is entirely appropriate. This guy is surely talking about the business of being the church.

    Re: Your next Pastor

I'm not sure that you understand my objection... while I agree that over-the-top politics has no place in the pulpit, I don't think that's my primary issue. My issue isn't left or right politics... or attempting to be fair between the two... (although I think that's important too).

The primary issue is the over-the-top patriotism in the church service... it's not worship... it borders on idolatry.

Having said that... I'm sure that you're right when you say that this particular church has PLENTY of good things going for it besides this particular two-minute clip. I didn't see anyone judging the rest of the church based on the clip... but I can't see myself attending that church... at least not if this occurred more than once or twice.

(By the way... I'm not sure I think that this other clip you provided qualifies for my idea of Christian Worship either. There are plenty of contexts in which it is appropriate... but I still don't see it as Christian Worship... it's something else.)

No argument from me there. Although I'm thinking that we may not be seeing eye to eye on what constitutes "worship"

I couldn't picture myself attending there either. Even though I must admit that I love the way he alliterates the word "HEY!!!" He seems to bring it forward on the off beat in his cadence, then he brings it out smoothly holding it out while increasing then decreasing the volume.

Still I'm guessing that he is probably one of those preachers that just plain talks too much.

I'm not entirely sure how you are defining worship. I'm seeing this Priest as equipping his saints toward action to aid in the mission of the church. That is the proper function of clergy, at least in my view. As far as "worship" in the heart toward heaven sense, yes I can see it's place in the service as we sing and pray, but beyond that I'm thinking no. I worship all week long, I don't need to go to church for that, I'd like to be equipped please.
