He Healed Our Marriage by Aletha Hinthorn
"He Healed Our Marriage"
by Aletha Hinthorn
After Cindy was married, to her husband's dismay, when he would tell her something to do, she would recoil, thinking, "No one tells me what to do!" A pattern emerged: she was in charge of the home, and her husband was in charge of his job.
After about 13 years of marriage, she attended a women's Bible study. One Wednesday morning as she prepared for the women's group, her husband asked if she could help him with his college paper, which was due that day. He is a procrastinator and, as usual, had waited until the last minute to finish this assignment.
Usually, Cindy would rant and rave about how he should have done this ahead of time and how he inconveniences others by waiting until just before the deadline to finish his work. Because of what she had learned in Bible study, however, she knew her fleshly response was wrong. They had studied submission that week and she was learning to see things from God's perspective.
Just then, the phone rang. Cindy's friend from the study group was calling to see if she was going to the study that morning. She told her the situation and asked her advice. She replied that, according to Scripture, Cindy should stay home and help her husband, because he was her priority.
Cindy was floored! How could her friend suggest she miss this time with these women of God in order to bail her husband out of a mess he had gotten himself into? Suddenly, she began to see things differently.
She stayed home and typed his paper with gusto, as to the Lord! (Ephesians 5:22) She felt energized to know that she was submitting for perhaps the first time in our marriage!
Cindy said, "Since that discovery two years ago, I have grieved over the pain I caused my husband over the years. But the healing God has brought to our marriage is miraculous and we are stronger than ever."
Thank You, Jesus, for Your perfect plan for our marriages.
"Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up" (James 4:10).
Memory Verse for March "May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit" (Romans 15:13).
