We do love the people of our home district and are very excited about being on their team again. Leaving RCN after just getting a good start is difficult, gut-wrenching in fact.

I have been in a lot of humble positions as a minister and been proud to be there. I've never felt smaller or more humbled than in the last 36 hours.
Get ready to be humbled further, now that you're going to be a DS!

Although it's never long enough, thank you for being our pastor and loving us all . . . especially me! Kerrie will tell you that's not always easy. We love y'all (that's "You all" to you Midwesterners) and would welcome you any time you're in our neck of the woods!
Thanks Scott Sherwood - "thanks" for this post

My reply last night didn't show up on the thread this morning for some reason. Anyway, thank you so much for being our pastor for the last year or so. Y'all (that's "You All" for those of you in the midwest and the north ) have been just simply wonderful about jumping right into our hearts and lives and loving us with ALL our faults . . . and I have plenty of them myself! We are going to miss you horribly but would never stand in the way of God's will.

The first time I ever met Scott was in Mattoon at the very church you now pastor. I lived there and went to church there, he and Sherry were students at Olivet. I can't remember the circumstances exactly, but a friend of his from Olivet was our youth pastor/intern for the Summer. Scott either came to visit him or to speak or something of that nature. Either way, remember very clearly being impressed by him then, and as I watched him ministry from very much afar at Bloomington continuing to be impressed. Great things are in store for NWIL.

My only fear is that now he's a DS, we'll never see him on Naznet again - he's always been a great mediating voice here.

Would that have been when Corey Jones was interning here in Mattoon? Just met him on Friday night at a district event which he came to speak at. It was a powerful time of prayer.

Re: Northwestern Illinois District Superintendent Election

When calling a pastor there are interviews and a more in-depth process that at times requires silence for a longer period of time. My best friend was called to a church and I didn't even know until he had accepted. In those situations sometimes you don't go and you certainly don't want to disrupt the relationships you have developed.

On a district and general level, names are suggested and entered onto the ballot in public. When you have representatives from every church in the district or region silence just isn't going to happen. Many pastors are caught off guard as they never dreamed that someone would consider them, especially when they are serving in another district. I remember when I accidentally discovered that Jerry Kester was made DS in Washington before his congregation in Idaho was informed because I just happened to be looking at the District Website looking for positions when they posted the news.

Clergy assignments continue to be an emotional process because relationships are impacted. Our hope is placed in God that we have heard God's voice and that we will have the strength to obey.

No, I'm pretty sure it was Ken Garner who is now the Senior Associate Pastor as Jackson Michigan First Church of the Nazarene. Yeah, Corey is a great guy too, I saw him at Palcon a couple of years ago.

I was at Olivet when he was a student there. That means you must have been a student there when I was. I don't recall having met you there though. I graduated in 90 - when did you?

Off topic: happened again, so tho't I would mention it in case anyone saw the subscripts and tho't I was laughing at a very serious post in this thread before I noticed it and had a chance to remove it. This touch-pad ... so sensitive, so "touchy!"

Hmmm... my post didn't post. I need to ask a question. I graduated from NTS in 2006 with a "Scott Sherwood." Until this thread I assumed the Naznet Scott Sherwood was the same as my classmate Scott Sherwood. What is the relationship between the two Scott Sherwoods?

Eric, that's me. I finished the M.Div through modules. Do you remember if we had any classes together?

Kevin Rector: No, I'm pretty sure it was Ken Garner who is now the Senior Associate Pastor as Jackson Michigan First Church of the Nazarene. Yeah, Corey is a great guy too, I saw him at Palcon a couple of years ago
It was Corey. I was there for a weekend youth revival. Must have been the summer of '91. Kevin, you made an impression on me that weekend, mostly with your sense of humor. I thought sure there was sketch comedy in your future. Over the years though you impressed me with your intellect and heart.

Thanks Scott. Congrats. I am not sure if we had any modules together or not, but I do remember the name/face (the face looks familiar enough I thought you were the same, but different enough I couldn't be sure...). I am not even sure what modules I took in the last couple years God Bless.
