    NazNet upgrade

Our NazNet server move was done this afternoon. So far, things appear to be working okay although there are a few minor issues.

I'm feeling like the forum is faster...what do you think?
Thanks Jeremy D. Scott - "thanks" for this post

    Re: NazNet upgrade

It could be a bit faster, I'm really not sure. I also haven't noticed any issues thus far in my posting/browsing/etc. Glad that everything worked this time.

I think it feels faster, too. It took almost no time at all for this Quick Reply box to pop up when I clicked the Reply With Quote button. Usually there's a brief pause.

This is true. I hadn't noticed it until you pointed that out. So yes, it does seem faster.

I don't know about faster, but I guess I should go check the prayer forum to see if my post is still there. I posted, then spotted a typo and went to fix it only to be told the forum was down!

    Re: NazNet upgrade

I've done several things on the server today and it feels considerably more snappy to me.

In fact, last night I found myself clicking on something and glancing away, then looking back and not realizing for a second that it had already loaded the page. I think I've developed a subconscious habit of killing a second or two while waiting for NazNet pages to load - they were loading faster than my built-in NazNet timer expected them to be.

At this point, I'm rather pleased with the move.

So... what was the move? From what to what? What kind of server arrangements are we talking about?

    Just curious.

Scott, the whole site feels considerably faster. Thank you. It is a wonderful change.

Well, I don't want to tell you Dave's business (and I know that's not what you're asking) - but NazNet has been on an older, dedicated server (so old that it's being taken out of service). We moved to a newer, faster, shared server with a host that specializes in vBulletin. Because of that, the move was much easier and trouble free that what happened in the first effort and we find ourselves with a faster online experience!

It appears that in this case, less is actually more.

It's like the flood, David. He did it once, but in His mercy, He doesn't keep doing so. He lets the pure concerned wheat and us evil tares grow till the harvest.

It seems a lot faster to me, but I thought it was because I finally have my Gig Harbor desktop up and running. While I was gone to Arizona the graphics card developed a problem. It has taken me a few days to find the problem and replace the board.

Take it from an IT guy. Nobody notices when something is faster, and when they do, they keep quiet so as to not jinx the blessing.

    Re: NazNet upgrade

I just noticed that we can now store up to 300 private messages, up from the previous limit of 50. Was this part of the upgrade, or did it happen a while ago and I just now noticed?

    Either way: thank you!

You're observant! We have some storage space so I thought I'd bump it up. Hosts, because they do more private messaging get 500.

I saw that and wondered about that. My latest memory was that I was always having to delete messages. When I saw that I had plenty of storage I wondered who deleted my messages for me?

Nothing new to add - just have to post that I've really enjoying the higher speed of NazNet. I can't imagine it working faster than it is.

Your speed is controlled by the slowest element. If your speed has not increased, then NazNet's server was not the slowest element. It could be your computer, your router or your internet connection that is controlling your speed.

From time to time I run a speed check on my computer to see if it is performing well. Just Google "computer speed test" to find several sites that will tell if your computer is normal.

I really appreciate all the work that Scott does to keep NazNet running. People often thank me for paying the bill, but if we had to pay the "going rate" for Scott's services, there probably wouldn't be a NazNet. The services he volunteers are a lot more than the bills I pay.

I am also feeling better that NazNet is now on a server that has a policy against hosting "adult sites." Through a series of events that were out of our control, we have been with a hosting company that specializes in porn sites. When we first put our site there, things were good, but another company bought out our host. The company that acquired them was the one that hosts thousands of porn sites. I have been wanting to move since I learned the fact. Now, we are with a hosting company that has a policy not to host porn. I like that.

Thanks Dave. You are welcome - many years ago I sensed the Lord calling me to pursue ministry on the Internet - at the time I had no idea of exactly what that meant, but I've come to believe that my technical efforts here (as amateur as they are) is a part of my responding to that calling.

Actually, NazNet's hosting company went through not one buy out, but two. The current company (that we just left) was the third one to own the servers. Until you told me, I had no idea about the adult sites. In fact, after you said that I looked it up and sure enough, their TOS is that "legal" adult sites are accepted.

Our new host, urljet, specifically says they don't allow any kind of "adult sites."

I hope we have a long and positive relationship with these folks.

After much focused troubleshooting, I am pretty sure it is the manicure. Going out for a new one tomorrow, see if it does the trick.
