To know and to serve God, of course, is why we're here, a clear truth, that, like the nose on your face, is near at hand and easily discernible but can make you dizzy if you try to focus on it hard. But a little faith will see you through.

I don't find it to be a pile of dung, just one source among many.

Hans--fox news is definitely not a favorite of many of us here--so while it may be tongue in cheek it is not exactly a joke--Ed

When I read it I didn't feel like it was really saying all that much. Basically, our world is going to hell in a hand basket and needs Jesus as much as ever. It's polls aren't all that impressive to me because those are subject to the targeted demographic of their polling system. Oh, and read your Bible. Oh you don't have one? Then buy one. That's what it seemed like to me in a sense.
It is sad though that the Bible has become such a discarded text. I wonder how many kids in our school systems have any real clue as to what it is about.

PDF of the actual survey found here.
Poll conducted by the Barna Group.
To a large degree, this is just a different way of phrasing the results found in the other Barna book "UnChristian".

I would not cite Wikipedia in a serious discussion but it is a good place to look for references and decent enough on most subjects for an overview.
IMDB is a great place to settle movie disputes.
NNU's Wesley Center online is a great resource...
Al Gore's invention has its uses after all.

The sad truth mentioned is, most people dont read the Bibles they have. I hope we all here read the Bible through at least once a year?
Ian, I don't.
I have read the entire Bible through many times, but I do not make it a regular, yearly practice. Here's why:
1. To do so, at least for me, requires a "leveling" of Scripture that suggests that all Scripture is of equal value and deserving equal time. I don't find that to be the case.
2. To do so requires me to focus on "getting through" passages. I have not found that to be a valuable way for me to study Scripture.
3. I prefer a more in depth study of passages.
We just finished a 31 week really quick series through the entire Bible, sermons, Sunday school and small groups, for all age groups. It was a really helpful exercise for our church, as we have so many young and new believers who are functionally illiterate when it comes to the Bible. What shocked me was the number of people who have been in the church for years who were unfamiliar with most of the Old Testament and its relation to the NT, particularly those stories that they never heard in children's Sunday school.
Must be the pastor's fault.![]()
