    WaPac District?

I saw a couple general posts about the Washington Pacific District Assembly. Any more information? Results of elections, etc? How did the new DS do with his first District Assembly? General Assembly Delegates?

Debra had said last year would be her last. If she retired, who is the new NMI Chair?

    Friend,

    Wes

In my opinion, the assembly was a hugh success. You would have enjoyed it. The format was changed dramatically. Perhaps I can share more details about the format when I get some time. I have been tied up processing the photos. Anyone can see the pictures (more than 1,000 of them) at http://www.davemcclung.com

One of the biggest issues got only minimum public discussion, but was a major topic in the hall ways. It has been confirmed that the Gold Creek Community Church is not a local congregation of the Church of the Nazarene. The church has never really operated in accordance with the Manual or Nazarene polity, but its attendance has been reported in the WAPAC statistics. Because their membership and statistics were not included, the district showed a decline. Everyone I talked to agreed that excluding their statistics was the right thing to do.

Debra's election as NMI President last year was for a two year term, so she will continue for at least one more year.

I can't list the names of those elected off the top of my head. I am an alternate for the General Assembly. I believe NazNetter, Heidi Anderson, is also an alternate.

The class of ordinands was 11!! There are a lot of new pastors on the district as a result of retirements. I enjoyed meeting them and hearing their reports, but I missed a number of those who retired.

The new DS, Jerry Kester, did an outstanding job. I was impressed. He is providing some fresh leadership to the district. I am encouraged.

    ... what Dave said.

I too think Jerry Kester had an outstanding rookie year and I'm very encouraged about the future of WAPAC. Assembly was great. Many said best ever.

Could we get some clarification on the Gold Creek church? They have been a subject of discussion on naznet before. Pretty sure it was BC. Were they never organized as a Nazarene church, or did they withdraw from the denomination? If they were an organized church and left, doesn't the denomination retain rights to their property? Not trying to muddy the waters, just seek clarification.

They were organized and left. I'm not on the DAB but my impression is that they are in a great deal of debt on some very big buildings they recently constructed. So much so that they talk to their people about money a lot. (Talked to someone recently who left for that reason) I'm guessing we don't want anything to do with their buildings.

Heidi shared on her Facebook page that she was both reelected to the DAB, and elected as delegate to the GA.

I recall the same thing happening years ago with the Beech Grove, IN church. They became extremely legalistic and left the denomination ( or were kicked out, depending with whom you speak.) They had just constructed a new facility and had major debt, and so were allowed to retain their property. However, the denomination took them to court because they refused to change their name from "Beech Grove Church of the Nazarene". The denomination was successful, and today the church's legal name is "Independent Nazarene Church".

We won't have a problem with Gold Creek holding onto the name Nazarene. I'm guessing most of the people who attend have never heard it.

David, I know you weren't trying to "muddy the waters" but the best answer I can give is that the water was already muddy. Different people would answer your questions differently about the past, but the action taken by the WAPAC district will clarify things for the future -- the Gold Creek Community Church is not a local congregation of the Church of the Nazarene and the Church of the Nazarene makes no claim to any of their property. The WAPAC District wishes the Gold Creek Community Church only the best.

Good for Heidi!! When it became clear that I wasn't going to be a delegate, I lost track of the voting. Heidi is highly regarded on the WAPAC District.

Thanks for the information! Wow! Is about all I can say regarding Gold Creek. That situation HAD to be resolved. Too bad it was there for the new DS, but good to have it taken care of! That is an amazing statistical hit for the District, but I'm positive it is better for everyone to deal with what actually is.

    Thanks, again!

I think Gold Creek was resolved with great grace and Jerry did an excellent job. Hopeful that Dave will help us with resolutions etc for GA13!
