    The Marketing of Jesus

This is an article written by Derek Webb (who is sometimes a member of the folk rock band Caedmon's Call) about the "Christian" market. I find that I agree with almost everything he says (other than possibly a couple of sentences that betray his Reformed background).

safe for the whole family: the marketing of jesus

    Any thoughts?
So when the gospel is diminished to a question of whether or not a person will “get into heaven,” that reduces the good news to a ticket, a way to get past the bouncer and into the club. The good news is better than that.

    Re: The Marketing of Jesus

Every once in awhile when in such a store, I am amazed at the assortment of things that seem to fall under this umbrella (yeah, usually things are outside of & fall onto an umbrella, so a rather strange tho' common analogy ), tho' perhaps some is not meant to be considered as such, being there only as things people may need/want. Seems they figure they may as well supply them (& get any profit therefrom) as the next guy, along with their "Christian" books, etc, that one came there for that may very well not be available in many "secular" outlets.

All that being said, admit tending to not listen so carefully for undesirable lyrics (tho' careful whenever I write any) when radio is tuned into a "Christian" station as if it is tuned to some secular station, figuring they at least are not apt to condone any lurid lyrics, but only an occasional theologically inaccurate song, which I can easily ignore till the next one comes on.
