I started writing a daily devotional in 2006. At that time, I was looking for a way to enhance my personal Bible reading by slowing down and focusing on some feature of each passage. For me, writing about it seemed to be a good solution.
Not long after I started I decided to publish my writing on the Internet. Of course, I hoped my thoughts would be helpful to others, but it also put a bit of a thumb in my back to stay with it day by day.
The first time I finished the OT I went back to the beginning, editing four a day as I went. That same work is now being published on the web for the third time.
Meanwhile, I've also worked my way through the NT. I made one change for the NT - limiting myself to one devotional per chapter. Otherwise, I'd have probably ended up writing a devotional per verse! I've now worked my way through those devotionals too - in fact, twice.
The milestone is that today I finished by third pass through the entire Bible. It has taken me about six years and I've written 1182 devotionals.
I've pre-published the devotionals to the web - and the final one isn't scheduled to publish until late November, 2014.
I'm going to look around for a publisher, but I don't have any illusions as to the market value of a daily devotional written by a little-known pastor. My plan "B" is to self e-publish for nook and kindle.
Anyway, I'm writing this post to invite my friends here on NazNet to celebrate the end of a years-long project with me.
I think my next project will be to try my hand at writing some short, Bible-based dramas suitable for use in church services. We'll see....
