    doxy vs. praxis?

Recently, I ran into the following response to one of my posts on the "what the bible says about homosexuality" thread:

"The thread was/is about what the Bible says about homosexuality, how we love those living in sin is respectfully a distraction to the discussion. "

What does it mean that how we deal with the bible is separate from what the bible has to say about things? This would seem to represent a divorce which makes discipleship frankly impossible. Am I overreacting in this?

    Re: doxy vs. praxis?

As I read through the Gospel accounts of Jesus' life and ministry I come away with people over doctrine, always. Seems He has the sharpest words for those who insist upon orthodoxy when orthodoxy gets in the way of loving people. I think that how we treat people trumps how we think about the Bible, certainly trumps our interpretations (yes, I do see the irony in my statement, but I'm good with it.)

So, How do we love in spite of? (and isn't this how God loves us, in spite of?) seems to be the most biblical question we can wrestle with.
You can be right or you can be in relationship
