Grand Canyon Adventure -- May 2012

Linda & I hiked with our daughter, Jenna, and three friends from Arizona. The Grand Canyon is always an adventure. It is a wonder what one can do if they really make up their mind.

Here are a few pictures -- not necessarily the best we took, but some that give one the idea of the nature of the hike.

One of these days Dave I'm just going to have to get in my car, drive to Arizona and hike that canyon with you. It would be hard for me, but I bet I could do it.

Maybe you should get a new car. They have them that would make that trip very pleasant.

If you are serious, I will send you an invitatioin when we have open slots. On this particular adventure, I had a permit for 11 people and only 6 actually went. A lot of people say they want to go, but most are not willing to do what is necessary. The main issue is knees. To successfully hike the Grand Canyon, one needs to work out enough to get their knees in adequate shape. Hiking out of the Grand Canyon is difficult, but everone can do it if given enough time. It is the hike down into the canyon that gives more people problems.

Have you ever driven across, Oklahoma? There's not a car in the world that could make that pleasant!

    Some thoughts:

    1. I am serious.
    2. I'd have to fly not drive... it's a long way from Arkansas to Arizona.
    3. I'd have to get my wife's permission.
    4. I'd need plenty of advanced notice to get myself in better shape (and to save up the money for the trip).
    5. You need to write a nice long post somewhere on Naznet that I can read about HOW you typically go about your hikes rim to rim.

Would love to hear about that strengthening of knees. Have some trouble in my right knee, despite all the cycling I do.

Dave, What is the name of this trail? Do you usually use the same trail or different trails? Can you make the round trip in one day?
