2012 Doom and Gloom and All that?

We are bombarded with prophecies, most not christian, that 2012 is going to be an, ere, bad year. Armagedon, financial collapse, etc etc.
My position is simply, only God knows the times and the seasons etc, Jesus will return like "A theif in the night" etc.
But what do you folks think of all this doom and gloom in 2012 prophecies? Is there anything to it all?

I'm not so sure about "Armagedon" this year, but will Greece default on their loan repayments?..... probably; will they leave the "Euro-zone currency?", again, probably; will this cause a great deal of economic hardship around Europe and around the world?....... most certainly> I predict financial belt tightening in the months and possibly years ahead.
    Gloomy huh?!

Fairly recent archaeological discoveries seem to have debunked the idea that the Mayan calendar predicts the end of the world in 2012. The 2012 apocalypse was based on the notion that the Mayan calendar ended at the end of a 13th cycle calculated to December, 2012. The new discoveries indicate that the Mayans had developed a perpetual calendar. It was organized in cycles and was constructed in such a way that the calendar could be used indefinitely. The idea was to be able to predict the cycles of the moon so that events could be planned ahead of time. There are many internet sites that report this (for example: Mayan calendar ). I first read about it in the Washington Post a week or so ago (Mayan prophecy).

Just reminds us once again to take such ideas with a grain of salt. It also reminds us that too often we are too eager to believe things based on someone's interpretation. Even hard evidence and scientific data often gets filtered through one's assumptions and preconceptions. And in the scientific community (not to mention the religious community) sensational results often translates into money.

Not that I know this for sure but I believe that people have thought the world was ending for a long long time.

As well as the fact that they did not seem to include leap year which means 2012 would have been about 7 years ago.

Hell has frozen over twice. Once in the 70s I think, and again when the Eagles got back together.

You forgot about the Texas Rangers winning a Pennant races as well. Which happened twice as well.

Must have been 3 times. Saints won the Super Bowl!
My Prayer: Father, use me until I am used up, then call me home and may I hear "well done good and faithful servant". Amen.

That's what happens when you try to implement a half-baked theology which is only 150 years old and comes from the vision of a young scottish woman, and then implemented shortly thereafter in a popular study bible. You run into problems, because it's a theology that comes from man, rather than from God.

Yes her vision is suspect. Maybe a good reason for us to be cautious of teachings, prophecies, that come from ouside of scripture?
