Any REGULAR American Idol watchers/fans here?

If so, I say it's going to be a two-man FINAL next Tues - Phillip and Joshua...and depending on Phil's performances he really COULD win it all.

He's getting the teen-female votes for sure and that's a HUGE factor.

    Anyone?

My prediction came to pass and Joshua was sent home. While he is incredibly talented, I believe that his style while unique doesn't hold universal attraction. I predicted that folks would become bored as he can do some incredible things variety he lacks.

The finale is a tough call. Jessica has a beautiful voice with incredible tone, she could benefit from a few more years of singing and better breath control. While Phil Is a polished performer, although he does sound and look like Adam Sandler most every time.

My favorite was Skyler, she could be the next Reba McEntire.

The texting tweens will vote for the 25 somwthing male. Its has been a problem, IMO the main problem with IDOL that females no longer hacve a chance. My prediction is if Jessica does not win, the paying IDOL demograph (aka not textng tweens) will stop watching because it lacks credibility.

Re: Any REGULAR American Idol watchers/fans here?

Well, Dan, did not vote for Phillip, but then I'm no tweener, either!

Did sort of think, based on how their singing and all else involved struck me last night that it might have been Joshua staying, rather than Phillip (forgot & only saw about the last 5" tonight). Keeping Phillip instead, it might be because of the voter demographics, as suggested, so may not be much hope for Jessica come next week. Had it been her & Joshua, I could not decide at the moment. But Phillip was third in my book, yet he stayed .......

ETA, well get out your phones & vote then, you non-texting folks! (that is if you have texting; I did not for yeard, but w/family who was texting more, decided to get the 200 texts/$5 deal. Since we don't use all of the 200, sometimes use a few to vote.

(btw, have a friend who got texting just to "talk" to her teen daughter, who will just not call ~~ probably not uncommon these days. It's nieces & nephew here who seem to prefer texting to the phone, so my sister & I do it, too, sometimes, along w/a few other folks occasionally.)

I've only ever voted for Crystal Bowersox. Otherwise, I'm a passive IDOL fan.

My kids ard vocal majors at a performing arts school. They, along with most of their friends (male and female) do not care for Jessica's voice. While they admit that she is is technically a great vocalist, they think her voice sounds like an older woman singing 1980's type songs. My favorite was Elise, but I also like Phil Phillips and think he could sell records. That being said, none of us call in and vote.

I always find it interesting how subjective music and art preferences are. I don't like country music at all even though the musicians are extremely talented, but I love Bob Dylan and he doesn't have the greatest voice. I'd take a Picasso, Van Gogh, Pollock, or de Kooning over a Rembrandt, Botticelli, Monet, or da Vinci any day. I can still appreciate all their great talent and contributions to society. Sorry for the tangent.

I have to wonder if this year will be a repeat of the year the Reuben won out over Clay. Simon said that Clay may not have won, but the real test would be which one sold records.

Phil Phillips is definitely ready to sell records. Jessica has an incredible voice, but she is singing way beyond her age, there seems to be an element of authenticity missing.

Not tangential at all, Valisha. Definitely the arts involve much subjectivity! Now, if we tried being as subjective in, say, math, it just would not work: "Well, I just can't help feeling more comfortable thinking that two & two make five." Yes, some things are much more concrete/B&W than the arts.

(eta: have wished more than once in my lifetime there had been such an option for a HS when I was that age, as you mentioned your kids attend, being much more comfortable when dealing with music. )

Jessica by having a Philippine heritage is HUGELY popular now on local coverage in TV and tabloids. I have only kept up with Idol this year with kids wanting to watchit. I must say I think Joshua was clearly the most talented and should be voted most likely to succeed , but in a popularity contest . Phil Wins I think. I think Phil is great but his performances are just so ordinary. YO Jessica is dude over the top ! AI should set up a new system perhaps a weighted system... with votes from a "college" of Musicians counted, tabulated and weighted against the popular vote. IMO its just not very fair.

Good idea, getting some musicians into the mix. Have you suggested this to them?

Looking good for Jessica so far! She just did The Prayer and nailed it! Great tone, nothing fancy, authentic and natural.

Phil did I'm Movin Out, and he made Adam Sandler proud. Two rounds for Jessica, in my opinion.

Final call for me, it's a toss up. Jessica did a great job, not a good song choice though. Phil pulled off something totally original, sounded like a cross between Paul Simon and bob Dylan.

Oh no, "American" idols are ok, they are sanctified by the faith of the founding fathers.

The program could have been given a different name ... but wasn't, with society having no qualms about that noun ...idol.

Just got finished watching the finals and I think Phil dominated the last two songs. Jessica has a nice voice, but too much like Whitney Houston and/or Celine Dion...I got my fill of that kind of voice in the mid-nineties.

That would explain it! I can't get enough of Celine Dion! I think that Jessica needs a few more years to get Celine's confidence though. She seems to be suffering from a bit of stage fright. Still incredible for her age though.

Phil is definitely ready for the big time, no doubt in my mind, I think that I'm hung up on how close he sounds and looks like Adam Sandler. I'm thinking that I really want to hear Phil do the "Hanukkah Song."

Still favoring Jessica slightly, but there is no doubt, Phil took the third round.

Re: Any REGULAR American Idol watchers/fans here?

    Someone I love wrote:

"We'll watch it tonight. I like seeing all the other contestants back, and the "surprise" guests. If they start doing a medley by a certain artist, you can bet that the artist is gonna come walking out. I hear that Reba Mcentire will be on, which makes me think she'll sing with Skylar. I want to see Aerosmith too.

I didn't get the impression that they were promoting Phillip. They thought Jessica won the first round. Steven thought she won the second round too, and Randy thought it was even, so JLo felt like she had to stick up for Phillip. I agreed with them on the third round. I thought Phillip clearly won that round on song selection alone. I thought his song was great. Perfect for him, and Jessica's wasn't at all. He had the audience in the palm of his hand all through that performance. Though he probably had already won, I think he definitely won the night, and the competition, with that one.

Who choses the "winning" songs? Is it the producers? Jimmy? Or do the contestants choose them? I've always had the impression that the producers choose. Sometimes they get it just right, like last year with Scotty's "I Love You This Big" and Lauren Alaina's "Like My Mother Does." Whoever chose Jessica's song did her a disservice.

I could be wrong, but I don't believe Phillip will be a major artist. I think he'll have a niche audience and a nice career, but won't have big hits on the radio and do major tours. We saw Taylor Hicks a few years ago, and it was in a maybe 1500 seat venue, about half full. I think Phillip will end up like that. Jessica will be one of the greatest singers ever, if they handle her right. But I believe Skylar will be the most successful out of this group."

    Reba is in the house!

What a performance, looked and sounded like mother and daughter! Skyler sounded every bit as good as Reba. Truly the real winner, ths girl was robbed!

Meanwhile the voting is over, which is too bad. Jessica absolutely nailed "I Will Always Love You" while Phil and John Fogerty sounded almost painful singing together.

Warning: I am not an American Idol fan or watcher.

But my mother is, and we are visiting her, so we have watched the last 3 shows with her.

I was appalled tonight by the costumes worn by some of the singers. Hideous!!!! They definitely need some help in the costume department!! Oh my lands.

I'm not a big fan of screaming singers.....and that's basically what all of them do.

I'll go back to not watching it now, thanks.

Yes, I agree w/that type of "singing(?)," Dana. Those are the ones that either get turned waaaay down or muted. Guess I still watch some to catch the rare "singer."
