on Monday this Memorial Day? God Bless and Comfort each one. I will be visiting the graves of my brother, killed in WWII, my parents and my sister and my Dad's first wife. I do so several times throughout the year and not just on Memorial Day. I will be wearing my Buddy Poppy.
Our church always has special recognition and patriotic specials for the Memorial Day Sunday. I hope all of you do likewise.

Yes, Mr Franklin I will honor those of my brothers who have fallen. As a retired Marine i think it proper to either attend a Memorial Day ceremony on Monday or if not possible, then at least include special prayers for my living brothers-at-arms, their families and the families of those who have fallen.Originally Posted by Jim Franklin

Our church would never co-mingle Corporate Worship of our blessed Lord and Savior with anything else at all. We gather for the Worship of the Triune God.
Most all in my congregation are very, very, patriotic, we just do not believe in mixing anything else, no matter how laudable, with the Worship of our Creator, for He is a Jealous God.
(I am not Nazarene anymore but Reformed Presbyterian.)

Most of all I'll honor my Dad, who served in the United States Air Force and who raised eight children to love each other, their Creator, and their Saviour. He was my rock. I've missed him horribly every minute since he went Home.
I'll remember my saintly Grandma, whose unconditional love pulled me through some very rough times when I was a young, frightened mother who hadn't expected to find herself on her own raising children. She was my "safe place to land" and I miss her very, very much.
And I'll think about my brother, who went Home this past September. He was such a wonderful man. I'm not the same since saying "goodbye" to him.

I've already been to the cemetery to plant flowers on my grandparents, great-grandparents, great-uncle, and my mom's cousin. Ran into my mother's cousin while there - she is 84 and the last of her siblings.
Our church has done things on memorial day in the past - don't know about this Sunday.

Perhaps it's a statistical anomaly but I have no "loved one" (by which I mean semi-close relatives) who died in service. My maternal grandmother had five brothers overseas in WW2 at the same time and all five returned. My dad spent time in Korea and returned... Other uncles in WW2 and Korea and cousins in Vietnam, all came home...
Thus, my Memorial Day observances are less directly personal. It often includes choosing and watching a "realistic" war picture such as Gregory Peck in Pork Chop Hill (one of my favorites because my dad was there, AFTER the big battle, but he was there) or John Wayne in The Longest Day. These films help me to remember and reflect...

Pastor asked those who were serving or had served to stand and be acknowledged. He then asked those who had lost a friend or loved one in the past year to stand and be prayed for.

We lost one of our two remaining WW II veterans on Sunday.
Due to the demographics of our congregation (very few people in their 50s and 60s) we only have one other veteran - Vietnam-era vet.

Our family went to Battleship Cove in Fall River, MA on Memorial Day. In addition to the onboard ship tours of the battleship Massachusetts, the destroyer Joseph P. Kennedy, the submarine Lionfish, a former Soviet era ship Hiddensee and several PT boats and various other small vessels, there was a 21 gun salute from the starboard guns of the Massachusetts facing into port after the memorial day remembrance.
