Fastest I've been in an automobile was 145 or so.

Fastest on a snowmobile was 122.

Fastest on a Quad was 90 or so.

Let's see 145 was not uncommon, passengers start turning white. Somewhere near 190 for a moment. Both in cars. Probably 120 on a motorcycle, I didn't have a fast one.

I drove 105 MPH on a cross-country trip way back in 1980 or so.......It was in a 1977 Datsun 280-Z that we were driving cross country and nonstop. We only stopped for gas and bathroom stops. It was fun, but we were exhausted. It was somewhere in Texas, Bert was asleep, and I was driving -- I decided to see what going 100 felt like -- so I drove at 105 for a few minutes.

It wasn't that exciting.

A couple of years ago I got to drive the Indy 500 Pace Car. Every member of the Speedway Board of Directors receives a version of that year's pace car. At that time, it was a Corvette Z06, and advertising on each side of the car indicated that it was the official pace car. There are about 30 or so members, and they have a contest each year to see who can put the most miles on their car.

My pastor is good friends with the husband of one of the B.O.D. members, and he swung it by church to let me drive it. We took it onto 465 around Indianapolis, and I got to put about 15 miles on it. Top speed I got to was 110 (also the fastest I have ever driven).

I've hit the speed limiter on my Mustang once just to see if it would do it (about 149 mph). Now though I have a custom tune that has eliminated the speed limiter, although I don't plan on ever going that fast again.

Back in my college days at Pasadena (yeah, I'm that old!), my brother and I had to drive over the Tejon Pass north of LA heading to northern California where we lived. It was pretty easy to get up to some high speeds coming down the Grapevine. I don't remember exactly what we got his old Chevy up to, but somewhere around 100 and that was just coasting! As I recall (that was a looonnnnggg time ago!), we both did that at least once!

Back in college Dr. F. C. Sutherland, one of my NNC History professors wanted to take some of us History majors from Nampa to Boise for a speech by the Egyptian ambassador.at then Boise Junior College. He was not acquainted enough to feel like he could drive to the event site and I had only been there once before but voluteered to drive his 1947 Chevy coupe. When we got to a highway I pushed it up to 40 mph and the good Dr. looked over at the speedomter and said, "That's the fastest this car has ever been with me in it. Fortunately, I drove directly to the auditorium where the ambassador spoke.

I am not sure why, but I have never wanted to drive a car as fast as it would go. For several years I owned a GT3000 that had a top end somewhere above 140. I don't recall driving it faster than 115. I guess my time of flying jet planes satisfied my thirst for speed.
