    A remarkable picture

This picture isn't remarkable because of the photography. It is remarkable because of the content. Linda and I saw two adult eagles teaching the young eagles to fly. If you look carefully, one of the adult eagles was actually upside down. I wish I had been closer.

Dave, can you explain in a little more detail what you saw that day. I would love to hear more about the flying lesson.

Cynthia, the picture pretty much tells the story. Linda and I were returning home from a family outing. Our home is located near an eagle's nest. As we approached, Linda pointed up and said, "Look at those eagles. Fortunately, I had my camera with a telephoto lense in reach. I stopped my pickup truck and leaned out the window. While I was taking the pictures, I didn't fully realize what was happening.

The two young birds were unsteady in their flight. When they started to descend, the larger eagle would fly up right below them. I couldn't tell that the adult actually touched the younger bird. I would guess that it was just the air flow that gave the young birds a boost. As you can see from the picture, the second adult bird was out in front. I assume it was leading the young birds while the second one was keeping them in the air.

I just happended to catch a picture of the one adult while it was rolling over. It didn't stay upside down for more than in instant.

Thank you so much Dave...for the picture and the story.
