    Re: For Doug

Not Doug, but agree if they are non-supportive flip-flops. Like them, but am picky about them. The only ones I can stand are those with an arch/shaped-to-foot sole. If I ever try any on now that are the first basic rubber flip-flops ever, I wonder how I stood those as a kid all summer for years, telling the minute they're stepped into (with foot tilting this way & that) they are verrry unsupportive.

Here are some that are similar to the ones I have that feel supportive (tho' mine have a two-wide-straps X, rather than just the one V-shaped strap these show):

    http://www.footsmart.com/arch-suppor...811b06b7911eee

Got three for the price of one (Bass brand suede, $19-20 ea) when a store was going out of business several years ago now (after being here in MI ... as, when yet in Phoenix, 'wore both mine & Danny's sandals, having no shoe $$$). So now cannot help but feel that, had I been able to predict how livable they would be, I may have gotten even more! They keep changing things, so if you find some really comfy shoes ....

They ~~ all three ~~ are now so worn, and we saw some nice replacements in a store for $100+ a couple days ago!! Waaaay too much! 'Was outa there quickly! They have sure gone up over several years.

The thread is titled such because I seem to recall that Doug has a certain lack of affinity for people who wear flipflips in public places.

I have closed toe sandals for kayaking and biking. I don't really wear flip flops (better known as thongs in South Florida)

Yes, think we called them thongs years ago, too ... until people started wearing what is supposed to be a piece of clothing that has the same name, so rather than have our shoes sound like that skimpy piece of clothing, the name evolved into what they sometimes do while wearing them ... flip-flop.

So they still call them thongs in FL, huh? Maybe when more boomers retire/go there, they'll bring the name flip-flops with them, and then ....

Wonder what he would say about working out bare footed.

Yes, yes and yes. friends, Romans, countrymen -- lend me your ears, with your feet firmly ensconced in comfy leather shoes. Do not suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, or the stingers of wasps and bees in your hippie, floppy things. Do not be like the infidels, those who lazily flip-flop their way through life. They who show up for dress events in flip-flops, and gnarly feet. Look at the dangers. Harken to this prophetic voice! Thank you, Dan.

When have leather shoes ever been comfortable I absolute distaste them for the lack of support in my arches and there lack of breath ability. And I for one am not going to spend 50+ dollars to get something that will not even do what it was design to do. You just think it is tacky and I say it is fashionable. Not to mention I have don't really find the use of dress clothes any use any more either. I just feel like a pompous when I dress up.

Steven, it is a wonder you are hired. BTW - you are missing a noun after pompous - should we insert something for you?

Actually I am not working at the moment mainly due to certain mental issues and lack of medicine, by all means add the missing noun.

Given your flip-flop wearing ways, how about we insert ragamuffin?

    Re: For Doug

LOL, I am not sure the last time I wore flip-flips actually. I was more coming to the defense of my wife who hates pretty much anything to with close toed shoes or restriction of the toes. I wore flip flops a lot in college though but stop doing it as often due to a weak tibialis anterior muscle, but I will probably start doing it again since I am working on getting in shape and that is the only muscle I seem to have a hard time training.

I've heard the barefoot running shoe styles help those muscles.

Yeah it is suppose to but it gets hard with shin splints. Which is also seen as a problem of a difference between the muscles in the calves and those in the tibialis anterior muscles.
