    That’s a TON of gold!

Exodus 38:24 reads: The total amount of the gold from the wave offering used for all the work on the sanctuary was 29 talents and 730 shekels,[a] according to the sanctuary shekel. (NIV)

The footnote for that verse reads: The weight of the gold was a little over a ton or about 1 metric ton.

    And that’s a TON (i.e., a lot) of gold!!!!!

According to Ask.com the current price of gold is: $1,668.25

(American dollars. This price fluctuates on a daily basis.)

    http://www.ask.com/answers/126590841...-price-of-gold

Doing the math, 16 oz/lb x 2,000 lbs/ton (32,000 oz) x $1,668.25 = $53,384,000 - the gold for that sanctuary alone, excluding the silver and other precious metals/jewels, had a current market value in excess of $53 MILLION bucks.

    WOW!

I am IMPRESSED by the Israelites’

    a) devotion and obedience to the commands of the LORD

    and

    b) their obvious earthly wealth.

Unless I’m missing something, that is. And please feel free to correct me.

    I’m used to it.

As an aside I’m also almost intrigued by the way my aged mind works during my devotional times EARLY in the a of the m. I’m kinda addicted to searching out discoveries like this, just to satisfy my curiosity, if nothing else.

I hope you have a satisfactory Saturday in HIM.

It was probably a littler higher than that when transferred into today money. To them it might have cost a total of 53 million in our dollars, but to them in that time it could have cost them about 530 million due to economic reasons. The money comparison never comes out correctly when we look backwards.

Correct, a more accurate correlation is to equate it in terms of how many hours of work it would take to obtain something.

To know and to serve God, of course, is why we're here, a clear truth, that, like the nose on your face, is near at hand and easily discernible but can make you dizzy if you try to focus on it hard. But a little faith will see you through.
