    Our La Palma vacation pictures

La Palma belongs to the Canary Ilands, part of Spain, on the west coast of Africa. Hannie and I spend the last two weeks there, in two different houses.

It is! The island is volcanic and in some places, you can clearly see the traces of the latest eruptions, in 1949 and 1971. It is not very touristic, though every now and then a cruise ship will harbour and in two villages they have the well know hotels and apartments. But in general tourists will stay at private homes that are rented out. The reason is that La Palma, contrary to the other Canary Islands, doesn't have too many beaches. Which means that the regular sun, sea and party folks are not interested. Most people who go there will come for the nice, quiet villages, the nature in general, the national park specifically and the great hiking possibilities.

You would do well there, pretty much all they speak is Spanish.
