    Happy Birthday, Idaho

July 3, 1890 was the day Idaho became the 43rd state even though it was scheduled for the 4th but President Harrison's wife wanted to get an early start on their holiday so the President signed the papers on the 3rd. Wyoming would have come in the same date but their territorial delegation was off partying and were unavailable to do their signing of the documents whereas the Idaho representatives were available to sign on the 3rd and Wyoming had to wait until the next week.

I raise my baked potato in honor of Idaho.
On second thought, let's not go to Camelot. It is a silly place.

I visited the remodeled state capitol building in Boise when I was there in 2010. It's a beautiful building. And very accessible. We were able to walk right in without being stopped, and we could even go into the Governor's office and take pictures. Of course, he wasn't there.

Donna Fletcher Crow wrote a series of fiction books set in Idaho. The first book (Kathryn: Days of Struggle) took place before it was a state and it was a real challenge to live there. Really interesting.

Donna and Stan Crow are friends from NNC days. I believe that when the remodeling was done Gov. Dirk Kempthorne made sure a prayer room was included.
